I want to list some old glass garland, and there are approx. 3,347 inches of it ... but I am listing it as available to overseas, and i want to mention the metrics measure for it, but aren't sure which increment/wording to use ...

Numbers give me such a headache (... okay, i admit, it's Miller time, too. Ohio/Michigan game is on, ya know. c'mon Buckeyes!!!)

Linear Measure

US Unit Metric Unit
1 inch = 2.54 centimeters
1 foot = 0.3048 meters
1 yard = 0.9144 meters
1 mile = 1.6093 kilometers
0.03937 inch = 1 millimeter
39.37 inches = 1 meter
1.0936 yard = 1 meter
0.62137 mile = 1 kilometer

You need to convert it to a measurement that will be of meaning to many people, weather they be landlocked or from seafaring nations:

3347 inches = 0.422601 Furlong
or
3347 inches = 46.4861111 Fathom
or for those in the U.K.
3347 inches = 0.0153013 League (nautical)

No need to thank me. Glad I was able to help.

Sparkz,
This might be right up your alley. Digital Equipment Corp (DEC) used to have a setting for their VMS systems (servers, mostly) that governed the way that the systems sped up and slowed down during Fall and Spring when the hour changed (so that you wouldn't have any gaps or going backwards on time stamps). It was specified in MicroFortnights... one millionth of two weeks. Turns out it is just a bit longer than a second (1.2096 seconds). I heard that the guy who put it in nearly got fired, but then it became a piece of knowledge for the systems types to joke about, and he survived.

Claude says! "... one millionth of two weeks"

Thought I could keep up with that, but nope. I'm not even CLOSE to being a rocket scientist ... LOL ...

Claude...I'm just waiting for someone on our local city council to come up with the idea of changing all our speedlimit signs from "miles per hour" to "furlongs per fortnight". The motorcycle cops should be able to generate enough revenue off that from tourists to allow them to do away with local property and sales taxes.

Marcia,

You must be psychic in your reference to rocket scientists. When I found out about that, in one of my previous lives, I was actually working for NASA in Mississippi at a rocket testing facility It might have been the weirdest 6 months of my life. Good food though.

Well, Claude, it was alldings that sent me into the unknown world of 'rocket science', as he was the first responder to my query ... ... but ... good food at NASA, huh?

Claude .... it was just a dream.

Nah, the food at NASA was miserable, but being less than an hour from New Orleans was great. I had never eaten crawfish before going down there at the tender age of 30, but I made up for lost time.

"Why of course the people don't want war... That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship ...Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."
