This is another one of those little treasures my brother brings to me from time to time. This plate is about the size of a charger and was found buried in the ground. It's brass with silver and copper inlay, which was not evident when he found the plate because it had been in the ground. I'm conflicted as to its origin. It looks Arabic to me, but to him it looks like something from India.
Also, there is some verdigris on the plate. Any idea on how to remove this or should I not?
Thanks!
Cheryl

How pretty! I can't answer your question about origin, but if the verdigris isn't too awful, I'd leave it on.

Arabic script, and since it was buried you better call Vice Prez Rumfield and tell him you found one of Saddam's WMDs*
Don't attempt to clean as you'll remove the antique patena.

Looks Persian to me, Islamic of some sort at least. Leave it alone -- you can take off the patina, original surface, but you can't put it back on.
