Wouldn't you know it? 7 days left in the Atlantic hurricane season and mother nature has to try to squeeze one more in. Tropical Storm Delta formed this afternoon in the Atlantic. So far it's not a threat to the U.S. but it needs to be watched. This one formed quite suddenly without much warning and gathered strength very fast.

Makes you wonder if this is going to be the norm from now on & maybe even going to get worse.
Read somewhere that the weather for the last two hundred years or so is not the normal pattern, but just a break from how bad it was in the past & how bad it will be in the future by getting a little worse every year until we get back to "normal"

Actually, nobody bothered recording weather data until fairly recently. Modern science is just now developing a picture of the cycles we go through. Last year, this year and possibly next year represent extremely active tropical cyclone seasons for the Atlantic. We reached the all time peak this year, and many in the field feel we will be heading toward the low end of the cycle starting next year. Global warming has surprisingly little to do with it. Global warming has been evolving for a million years, and since accurate records have been kept, it shows very little correlation to the severe weather cycles that have been mapped so far.
As far as Delta is concerned, it is only 4 mph shy of hurricane strength. The good news is that most models and the NHC now show it turning away from the U.S., so you folks on the east coast can breathe a sigh of relief. For awhile. They are watching a disturbance that could develop west of Delta in a couple days. Possibly a grand finale to the 2005 Hurricane season?
