I think everybody needs to read this. It is the first I have heard of it.

A disaster in the making! Express mail doesn't guarantee next day. I've even had next day UPS come a day late. I won't participate, at least not until it's been tested. I always ship next day, except on Sunday of course. What I don't need is a bunch of negatives from bidders should USPS not move fast enough.

You're right about express mail, it is not always 1 day delivery, sometimes it is 2 days. I've had a few customers ask for this kind of service, and if I am able to I will provide it. I am not always able to, so it won't be something I use.

Don't you see? They're still trying to mimic holiday catalogues.

First it was the profoundly stoopid eBay catalogue that has nothing for sale in it, now they're trying to tell people "It's not too late! Buy it by December 23 and get it in time for Christmas".

I'm personally offended that these morons actually get paid for coming up with ideas like this.

If you plan on buying something on 12/23 to have by 12/25, you'd better be shopping at a B&M store. I certainly won't make that promise!

Good going, eBay! Yet another useless "enhancement".

Well, while I'm PMS'ing I think I'll add this one to my list of stupid stuff!

There is no such thing as overnight shipping in this town unless I want to drive 15 miles to drop it off at the UPS or FedEx distibution center.

And the holiday shipping nightmare has already begun. Everything I shipped last Thursday has either been lost, re-routed or delayed.

FedEx Ground missed their Friday pickups, so packages were sitting at the local Pac-N-Ship from Thursday til Monday. When they FINALLY made it to the local FedEx office, they were delayed yet another day and did not make it to the Atlanta distribution center until today. This is insane. They should have all been on the delivery truck by now. Its the first time FedEx has goofed up this bad in 3 years.

And lets not forget USPS. Looks like Priority Mail must be on the FedEx trucks, lol. None of the items shipped Thursday have been delivered. One Media Package has been showing as mis-routed for 3 days and is finally showing at a distribution center 400 miles away from where it should be.

And now Ebay wants us to guarantee overnight service. They must be freakin nuts!!!

LtRay,

i agree, what a nightmare! i live in a small kentucky town like you do - it's 35 miles round-trip from here to Wal-Mart and civilization and i'm NOT going to spend my days driving back and forth to make extra shipping arrangements and trips for my customers! i ship EVERYTHING within 24 hours of payment anyway, and i fail to see where i can do any better than that. grrrr.....

i think fluffy's right - this glitzy "nonevent" "non-catalog" has gone to ebay's head and now WE'RE supposed to jump through hoops trying to get this pipe dream of theirs to be a reality???...ain't gonna happen, at least not at my house.

Just so everyone is aware before you panic, this is optional, meaning you can participate or not participate.

I think it is a dumb idea, as a buyer I would not trust most of the ebay sellers I deal with to ship almost immediately. I will be buying from an established retail location if I want that (which I rarely do anyway)

If I receive a payment by 3:00 PM, I can get it to FedEx that day and have it at your house here in the U.S. by 10:00 AM tomorrow. That's not a problem, IF A CUSTOMER SPECIFICALLY REQUESTS IT, and I have a chance to quote them the expense involved before the transaction is concluded. There is no way I would dream of including in a listing the fact that I can provide overnight delivery. Many bidders only pick out of the descriptions what interests them, if they bother to read the description at all. Before you know it, they will be scanning a description and interpret it to mean that you will provide overnight delivery at Media Mail rates. I agree with Cheryl, it's a disaster in the making, and an invitation to a whole string of disputes accusing the seller of gouging on shipping.
