I just did an advanced search of "xbox 360 picture of" in titles and description and came up with an active one with bids:

I have heard some sellers had to promise their first born child to be able to list an Xbox 360 (along with showing verifiable receipts that they actually had one for sale). I think I read it in Toben's thread on here. You know Ebay has to know there will be scum like this out there. I would think on items that there is a big feeding frenzy on ,that they would monitor them more closely. I for one would love to buy a premium 360 system, but can't find enough trust in Ebay and sellers to purchase it there. This can't possibly help Ebay draw new buyers, or strengthen trust in existing buyers to help the bottom line. I'm with you neglus, why can't they stop it?

THis same seller is selling a wholesale LIST of where to get an xbox 360 and he even is selling a REAL xbox (or it looks like he is selling a real one anyway) - he even talks about scammers in his REAL auction! What a scumbag!

It is true people are getting more and more credulous. They simply do not read, they more or less bid by looking at the pictures.
However, this type of auction is unethical. It can certainly be argued that it does directly imply or at least indirectly implies that a xbox is being sold.
It does not live up to eBays self proclaimed creed -- all people are basically good

It clearly states in the auction that they are bidding on a picture.
How can anyone be dumb enough to bid that kind of money on a pic of something, anything.

Ebay should have a rule that the item for sale has to be listed in a certain minimum sized font or at least in the same size as the rest of the listing...I could barely read it and I was looking for it. The "picture" in the title could mean that a picture is contained in the listing.

dadofstickboy --that was as I stated my opinion but sad to say, there are people that dumb!
I deal with people with high school and even college educations, that cannot or are just too lazy to read and comprehend a simple statement.
Maybe there should be a entry exam for bidders on eBay. A readers comprehension test.
But no matter how its tossed around this seller is a scumball or scumbag!

In this instance, I think we have a bunch of inexperienced newbies who think they are bidding on a system. They may not be able to spot the hook as well as we can, but remember, most of us on this board were here to see the exact same or similar scams take place last year with the PS2's. Personally, I was expecting these scams to pop up with the new Xbox's. But whether they are inexperienced or dumb for not reading the descriptions is beside the point. This seller is comitting fraud with this listing. The AG in his state needs to be notified and he deserves to be arrested and prosecuted. How many potential newbie buyers will be turned away from Ebay when this and the others hit the papers? And during the peak of the selling season to boot.

This auction is for a printed picture of a XBOX 360 game system, 2 controllers, and 3 games. you are bidding on a picture only. Please understand what you are bidding on before you bid."
Dad-I see your point in a way.HOWEVER read this auction. On the very top, which a lot of scammers do-it has a revision on the description. This is ALWAYS done AFTER they get numberous bids in the hundreds of dollars. How may people are going to go back to the auction read read the description AGAIN once they bid on it?? Once you read the auction and you decide you want to bid on it,theres no reason to go back and read the description again a couple of days later.
Now read the rest of the description-It gives a whole list of things the xbox can do-Now if you were just bidding on the picture, why do you need a description of what it does?? They put this in there to dupe people into thinking they are bidding on the xbox. Now who in hell would bid on a PICTURE of an xbox-WHO THE HELL WANTS THAT???????
These people are total scumbags-they should be executed and used for stem stell researh and do society some good instead of scamming people out their hard earned Christmas money.

It just occured to me that I am doing the same thing as the scammers!!
Title:"Fantasy Motel Anaheim California CA by Disneyland 1950s"($5 BIN)
I got an ASQ : "How many nights stay are included in the auction?"
In a similar auction, someone thought I was selling the MOTEL for $5 (for a $5 BIN ????)!!!!
Postcard sellers HATE to waste 8 characters in the title for the word "postcard". I can only recall these two incidents in the thousands of motel postcards I have sold,ut I guess to those two people I was a scammer!!

BTW, I just sent a very nasty email to one of these sellers. Can that get me into trouble?

from me:
"Ur a piece of sh#t scammer and U know it..........."
From the seller:
"It's not scamming, as NObody has realized the PICTURE is properly listed, it is listed in the ART section and last i checked, listing a digital picture in the art section WAS NOT against ebay policy. My description is in no way misleading. If people are dumb enough to drop 500 dollars on something that they havent even read the description for then they deserve to lose the money. It says its a picture in the title for christ sake."
LOL "The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing."

"Can you revise an auction after it has bids?"
" Nope you can just add to the description but you can't change title or description."
So lets say in the description he has
"this is a nice xbox"
then on the 6th day of a 7 day auction he adds
"this is a nice xbox..oh by the way, you're just bidding on a picture of the xbox."
again this will be after the bids are in the hundreds of dollars

I really enjoyed this line in the auction:
"Buying this is a legal commitment. Make sure you understand that this is only a picture of an Xbox 360 Premium Package, and not an actual system. Serious bidders only please. If you do not pay, I will report you."
Think he'd like a PICTURE of a $500.00 bill?

Find me some more....I've got nothing else to do and a throw-away Ebay ID. It took all of 5 minutes to get them busted - after I saw it here all day long and nothing happened to the auctions.........

Yay got another one.......small-town-friend.....the one that was selling the $500 wholesale lists - had one bidder and one completed auction already. They must of pulled those too since I can't pull up any completed auctions of his.
I told the seller: with a "small town friend" like him we didn't need any enemies
