I have labored most of the morning on and off to research and refund duplicate payments sent to me by a particularly prolific customer.

Just as I was finishing up, I popped over new email and guess what? She had made all those payments AGAIN.

Looking at the timing on the payments and the email, it's clear this is an automatic process. But what process is it?

I don't know of any way on eBay that you can make PayPal payments automatically, no human intervention required. Am I out of the loop here? Is there a way to do that I don't know about?

Thanks.

I've figured it out. Buyer looks at "Wins" in "My Ebay" and there is the "PayNow" button so they blindly (as in not thinking) hit it and pay until the button goes away. If you refund a payment, the button comes back! The trick is to refund all of the payments EXCEPT the one that made the button go away OR you (seller) and go to "Payment Details" and mark "Payment REceived" and put an end to it. I guess PayPal and ebay don't communicate any better than either one communicates with us!

If she planned on paying for another item ALL unpaid items would appear and it's just a click to pay enmasse without reviewing WHAT Is being paid for ...quase automatic anyway.

I am continually amazed at how many people there are out there that are so disconnected with their bank accounts. Neglus is correct, that is how it happens. People just mindlessly click on pay without thinking about what they are doing. I am seriously thinking about starting a new procedure, 2nd payment gets refunded, 3rd payment gets refunded, 4th payment gets kept unless a refund is requested. It is particularly annoying to refund duplicate payments, sometimes several days after you've shipped. It adds a lot of work, because I won't be able to find the item, then have to do research as to why I can't find it.

It's a nightmare and I don't know why PayPal and ebay have so many "glitches" in their payment communication! Usually it's the FIRST payment that doesn't show up on ebay so I TRY to refund that one but sometimes the item will show "unpaid" again anyway. GRRRRR. Once I figured I could manually mark "Payment Received" the third and fourth ones stopped coming.
