Seems like the sign-on issues Fenix and I had last night were system wide - some people say that other people are using their id's to BID (password must have been easy to figure out).

What happenened is that someone else's name appears on YOUR signin form.

Here's discussion of it on the ebay "technical issues" board:

Looks like it's being discussed on EVERY board and ebay pinks say they are aware it is happening to "a few" users!! On the announcement board too!

Ebay engineers "fixed it" by rolling back "new code"???

Any idea how many sales were lost in the meantime because little old grandma who only knows how to use computer for email and ebay signs on and sees someone else's name there and FREAKS????

Our engineers have rolled back some newly released code that may have been related to this issue. Posted on 17 Dec 2005

Not that there was much uncertainty about the issue, but if there was, it has now been 100%-without-a-shadow-of-a-doubt proven that eBay is run by blithering idiots.

Doing system upgrades the week before Christmas. Fecking brilliant.

Back when adults were running technology, this would most likely not have happened. If it had, half of the IT staff would have been looking for jobs at Burger King the next week.

It's a problem with QA and change control, and more fundamentally, a problem at the top allowing ANY code change in production that wasn't absolutely essential to the ongoing business during a peak time.

STUPID from beginning to end. Maybe eBay should outsource its IT to Google.

This definitely sounds like a trojan that is being distributed via Ebay. Somewhere on their site, there is an infected page. Those users who happen to visit that particular page are affected.

Just read this post on the Technical Issues Board -
"I had a man call me from California, I'm in Arizona. He said he went into his account and all my info showed up.MY name address phone bank info paypal info EVERYTHING>>> I talked to 2 people on ebay live. Neither helped. The one kept talking about spoof emails. I finally got really ticked off and told him the man did not send me an email. He did not ask me for any of my info. He DID read to me my info off of his conputer screen.....
Thank God this was an honest person and called me to inform me about this. I am going to change my passwords BUT I don't see how that will help when all my info just popped up on his screen. EBAY DO SOMETHING>>>>>>>>>>>

I'm afraid to post anything to sell or buy. I am going to clear out my paypal acct and anything else I can think of. "

How will we know if others saw OUR name? Did they successfully log on? Do they now have my bank account, credit card, etc info ??? This is really scary!

Calm down. Take a deep breath.

Now, go into MyFeeBay and look at your personal information. Mine has a credit card listed, but all except the last four digits are hidden. No one can use that information. I don't have a bank account registered with eBay, because I am not stupid.

In order to access your PayPal account, someone will still need your PayPal password, which they cannot get by being logged into your eBay account.

There are other levels of security on eBay where verification by login and password are required even though you are already signed in. If you think for a moment, you will remember where some of those places are.

All that being said, I think everyone should clean out their PayPal account to the last penny, anyway. We can't trust you, eBay. That is abundantly clear. Help me make it astoundingly clear to Meg.
