I don't think so, though glass isn't my forte. It looks like a Fifties or Sixties white milk glass Hobnail lamp body. The indentation in the base is for the cord.

Thanks Fluff for the quick reply. It's stressful I know about the dent on the bottom. I have it listed as a fenton hobnail lamp replacement part. I received an irate email from a seller who is seiling similar things to me. Sorry, this has never happened to me before. Of course, I have never listed so much stuff before either. I THOUGHT it was fenton. I again checked out their things. I don't know if theirs are fenton or not.

Here is the message I received. Notice the spelling and the attitude:

please revise your item it is not fenton but a cheap carappy copy they never made a lamp piece like that and you are falsely misrepresenting it as fenton which is against ebay rules to say its fenton when it is not

Well, there was a lot of Hobnail that was made that is not Fenton. Your irate correspondent is right about that much, anyway, and there are a lot of people who seem to think that any Hobnail must be Fenton. You want to be pretty clear on identification. I haven't been there in ages, but there used to be a huge book selection at the Antique Trove in San Carlos with lots of books on Fenton.

If you go into thrift stores you'll run into some of these Hobnail lamps sooner or later, usually with brass-plated bases and ruffled fabric shades. I've always taken the safe route and assumed they were not Fenton or they wouldn't still be there. Wish I'd been equally cautious about a lot of other thrift store crud I've bought over the years.

Carappy! Love it. New spelling of an important word.

Thanks again Fluffy. I truly appreciate the help. I have fenton books at home and did look it up. It looked exactly like the ones I saw in the books. I'll revise it to say that I have no idea who made it.

How can you tell if it is or isn't Fenton? I see no marks at all on it or on a lamp I have.

This is a Fenton piece that I have. Notice the cursive F. In my limited experience....most fenton pieces have this mark somewhere.

ewora, thanks so much for the info. I have other glass pieces that have that mark. I thought those were fenton. This one, being not marked at all, I guess isn't fenton.

I just checked this seller's items and feedback. Looks like they buy up the fenton and if it isn't feton, they leave negative feedback just to make a point that they seller is selling fakses. WHEW! That was a close one.

Some Fenton pieces had only paper labels.

I have 6 or 7 glass shoes packed away somewhere that I am certain are Fenton including 2 milk glass ones but the paper labels are gone. (They do not stick too well after repeated washing) Checked Ebay's listings and it looks like I could hardly give them away.

Forgot to mention that during the 50's repro Early American Maple furniture was all the rage. Accompanying it was a lot of milk glass including hobnail stuff in the form of lamps, ashtrays etc etc to complete the decor so one would imagine a lot glass companies were supplying these items.

fenton was only marked with a paper label until 1970...then all pieces have the molded mark.

this piece is definitely not fenton. once you become familiar with fenton, all you have to do is look at the piece to tell the difference. Fenton glass has a thick, rich look to it that is very distinct .

still, hobnail pieces are collectible in their own right, fenton or not.
