I know there have been several threads on this topic before ( shame on me for not remembering past 2 minutes ago), but where are the deals on ink to be found? Anyone have luck with those bought on Ebay?

Ink Cartridges. People still use Ink Jet printers?  Once I got my laser printer I have never looked back. Best money I ever spent. I bought a Brother HL-5140 laser printer at Staples and it was not much more than a ink jet. Even with the high volume I print per day I still am only going through about one toner cartridge a "year" and I print about 40-50,000 pages a year. I would not even want to think how many of those tiny ink jet cartridges I would have needed to do that. I even got the second paper tray for mine so I have shipping labels (for use with PayPal shipping)in one tray and regular paper in the other. God, life is good sometimes.

Mike-have you ever printed pictures with a laser? Was wondering how the quality was.

The Brothers printer I mentioned above is a Black only printer used for day to day business printing. I do have a color laser printer at home though and quality of print is as good as the HP Photosmart 1115 I had prior to the laser printer. Older color laser printers had low print quality but the ones they make today in my opinion have very good qality. Like most thing's they have improved on them and I would not doubt that someday in the future laser printers will completly replace ink jet printers
Color laser printers have 4 seperate color toner cartridges. Luckily it comes with all 4 when you buy the printer new as they cost quite a bit to buy all 4. However, I doubt that I will have to replace them within the life of the printer. I can't even imagine how many thousands of pictures I could print with it before it would need new cartridges since they are so large.
Another nice option on most laser printers is that you can get "Drum" cartridges for them and all you have to do then is buy the bulk toner in bottles and refill the drum, therefore never having to buy another cartridge again.
It comes down to this. How much do you print? If you print in any quantity the laser printer is the most economical printer since the toner cartridges are huge compared to the tiny ink jet cartridges. And if you are a extremly high volume printer just upgrade to the drum cartridges and all you will ever have to buy is toner. I can buy toner cartridges for my laser printers for the price of 1 1/2 ink jet cartridges on average and get (depending on amount of print on page) about 30 to 50 times more printed pages than compared to a ink jet.
My laser printer paid for itself the first year I had it just in cartridge cost saving's. And it print's well over 10 times faster than those clunky ink jet's (man the pages just fly out of those baby's).

Thanks Cheryl...that site does the trick. I print very little with the HP photo printer I have, but I find it's easy to use, easy to fit in the space I have, and best of all...it's already set up!...so yes, I do still use ink..does that make me old fashioned? LOL

Stop....I checked out the Overstock site and see they say HP compatible so they must be an off brand?? Have you bought them before? It shows a combo pack of black and color for only $19.95. That is a great deal if they are any good.

I always buy generic from AbacusInk on eBay for my Canon I960 at an incredible price. They sell HP too but I'm not sure if it's as good a deal or not.

I tried the pack of two before and now I am trying the pack of 4.

Do like I do. Look at the page, memorize everything on it, and move on. No need to even fool around with a printer.

I bought some non-HP "refurbished" cartridges once. Never again.
They leaked. Wrecked the printer. Fortunately my local Staples manager is simply wonderful. She replaced the printer.
From now on it's genuine HP or I don't buy it.
I decided stepping over the dollars to pick up the dimes didn't make sense...

Mike,
I liked the Brother 5140 so much that I have one at home and one at the shop. I had to replace the ink at work once, at home not yet.
The kids love it for homework (when they don't need color) because it's so fast (by their standards).

Classic, you have to spend real big dollars to get a laser printer that will come even close to what a 100 dollar inkjet does on photos. The best ones are superb, but you're talking 5 grand or more. At that price point ink cartridge costs are the least of your worries.
I have an ancient 600 dpi Apple Personal LaserWriter that I use for BW text...got it at Goodwill for 20 bucks. It does a fantastic job, and only uses a toner cartridge about once a year. Can't beat lasers for BW text, that's for sure.

Forgot to mention, I ruined an Epson inkjet using cheap cartridges. Now my inkjet has a bulk tank for the 6 colors and I fill it from bottles. Lots more economical. Just google "bulk ink systems" and you'll find several different co.'s offering setups. I print maybe 75 5x7 pics a month or so, give or take. Most of them are just proofs and get tossed out later. I send the good ones up to MPix for real printing on good paper.

Thanks profe-that info was helpful.I have a HP 7210 all in one.The photos are very good-I also use photo paper.Im not about to spend $5,000 on a printer.
