This oil on canvas is one of my sister's thrift store finds. We assume it is of the Christ Child. It is unsigned and I know there is no chance of identifying the artist but we are trying to get a ball park figure on the age. The back of the frame seems to have some age and the canvas appears to be original with it. The painting of the face looks 1920s era to me. Does this seem reasonable to anyone else?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Super nice 1890-1910 oil in original frame. What size and I will give you an idea of the worth.

Ann,
Thanks. I can't find the notes on the size and it is with my sister. I'll get the size from her and get back to you.

I agree with Valdesign here. The dates are what I would have given. Very nice piece!

Ann, I just heard from my sister. The canvas is 10 X 14 inches. I did not get the size of the frame. Do you need to know that as well? Seems that is apparent from the relationship of frame to canvas in the picture.

Value with size and unsigned 275-325. Too bad its not signed, this would help determine the origin...and increase the value. Good luck with this, I believe this will do well on Ebay. Write up as:
Original, unsigned, late Victorian 1890-1910 oil on canvas, in original period frame.
Have a good one!

Valdesign, thanks for the information. Might it be worthwhile to take the canvas out of the frame to see if there is any signature under the edge?
Actually I had a dream last night that we took it out and there was a green paper label on the edge with information. Now if we take it out and there is one I will be really spooked! :-0

Photo, you may even find some thig interesting tucked into the back.
This old oils were favorite hiding places for family treasures. I would have had that back off before I got hom with it, lol.
BTW, I love it! I would have to keep that one for awhile.

LtRay is right! Who knows what you'll find behind that frame. I think I would have had it off right away as well.
We have loose and cut out floor boards in our bedroom (house is over 100 years old) that were clearly cut out and put back after the house was built. There are no pipes or anything there so we've no clue why it was done. You don't know how badly I want to remove those boards to see if there is anything underneath!
