Hi Guys and Gals I need some help with a what should I do. Had bins running on dicount day and had a eureka super broom on for 4.95 buyer clicks it, sends money and I ship. Then I get a message that the vac was dirty with cigarette butts what did I want to do about it. I replied ship it back for a refund. She did not want to do that because of cost etc. I replied I would refund half and she keep the vac. She agreed to that and said she would be throwing it away anyway. I replied no send it back and I would refund shipping. And as I am mulling this around in my head, I remember I had taken the vac apart and there were no cig butts in the filter as it was very clean. So I get suspicious and check her bidding. It appears the day after she clicked my bin she wins an auction for a new eureka super broom. So it looks like buyers remorse. What should I do? She has not replied to my message to send it back yet.

I think I'd just keep her money and let her stew. It's obvious what she's done. Have you left feedback for her already? If not, leave a neg and just accept the risk of getting a neg back from her. However, if she paid with PayPal, I suppose she will do a chargeback. Sometimes we just have to call it part of Ebay 101, swallow our pride, and move on.

For 4.95 refund the money, let her keep the vacuum. Block her from bidding on your auctions. Not worth the trouble.

Tell her that you checked the previous history of it, and that it was only used in the contageous disease isolation ward at the local hospital, and since they don't allow smoking there, it's impossible for it to have cigarette butts in the bag. Therefore, no refund will be considered. However, you highly recommend she wash her hands thoroughly if she has handled the bag. Suggest she keep it as a spare. If her regular broom ever breaks, she can fly to work on this one.

Thank you for your help in this matter she paid with a check and no I have not left feedback. Do you think I should let her know that I know what she is up to?

One other question. For the negative feedback...How should I word it?

Don't worry about the neg at this point. I would wait till she leaves feedback, and concentrate on your response, if she leaves a neg. Your response to a neg is the most important factor, because it's on your page and is what your customers will see. The feedback you leave for her needs to be designed to warn other buyers. We can offer a few suggestions when that time comes.

I would go with sparkz first suggestion about the "was only used in the contageous disease isolation ward at the local hospital". That's a clasic, you just have to use it.

At this point, I'd be worried that her check might bounce, if you mailed the item right away.

In any case, I wouldn't refund postage, since she lied about the cigarette butts.

I'd hold off giving bad feedback. Getting bad feedback in return won't do you any good.

This is the response I received to asking for the item to be returned.
Response from kay20050_11
Item: Eureka Superbroom Brush Up Vacuum (4429166362)
This message was sent after the listing closed.
kay20050_11 is the winner.

Are you going to refund me the $7.90 shipping and handling and insurance $1.30 & the $4.95 for the item? Will you accept the item COD? All this has made me leery about biding on used items. I am going to be out about $15.00 for nothing if you don't have any other items.

Ok, my dumb question for the week. I see in your original post you stated "So I get suspicious and check her bidding.". How did you check her bidding history and see she had bid on another vacuum? All I see when I click on her username is one feedback for a doll. I'm sure there's a simple answer but enlighten me

In advanced search you can select items by bidder for the last 30 days. There are other options to select from also.

Thanks for answering my dumb question. I have never had a need to do it so I was unaware of the feature and I guess I just never noticed it in the advanced search page. Thanks

I would tell her you will refund the full price of the item, but no shipping and insurance refund, since postage and insurance has already been spent.

You stated in your auction that the item was used and in good condition. Cigarette butts, even if they were present, can be removed and if the item is working then within your terms.

I would tell her you noticed that she won a new broom in another auction, that you remember cleaning this one thoroughly and it had no cigarette butts at that time, that it was a used broom and works as stated, and that no refund will be issued unless she returns it and no, you won't refund shipping, nor will you pay for shipping it back. Suggest she re-sell it on eBay. With only one feedback, she stands to lose more from a neg than you do, but don't leave feedback unless she does.

Then, for all your future listings, include a written return policy.

I think she deserves a neg for being such a liar - particularly since she seems so well-versed in how to get over on a seller, I tend to think this is not the first user ID she has had.

I would neg her and email her that you know what the deal is. But then again, that is probably why my feedback isn't the greatest!

Caroline, It's not worth it to neg these idiots. Sellers hardly ever look at a buyers FB or even care about it.

On the other hand most buyers will check FB before bidding so it's the seller's FB that really counts.

Protect your FB, only neg if you get one first. Negs don't hurt buyers, they hurt sellers.

File for FVF, when they get three let eBay kick them off. Don't risk your FB.
