I have a UK bidder win an item for about $50. I received an e-mail from her today stating that she's having trouble with Paypal and is asking for alternative payment methods. Does anyone have any suggestions now that BidPay is gone?

AuctionChex - customer does a wire transfer to them and they can either send you a check or forward the payment on thru PayPal.

StopWhining:

I've looked at Payko a number of times, but have been dissatisfied with their transparancy...

NOW, we have this at their site if you try to purchase a MO:

**PROCESSING ISSUES WITH PAYPAL**
Due to issues with Paypal, transactions funded via Paypal are not being accepted at this time. We are in the process of returning credit card funding and will be processing these transactions shortly. Please email Paypal and express your desire for our services and frustration for thier handling of this issue - With customer support we may be able to see Paypal offered again. If you have any questions please email [email protected].

It looks like they are trying to convert to CREDIT CARDS &/or CHECKING ACCOUNT funding, but, they ain't ready for prime time...

tOMWiii,

Glad to know that PayKo have finally admitted they don't accept PayPal. It was alluded to in several threads on the eBay forums but too bad they haven't sorted it out with PayPal. I expect Eddie StClaire will face similar obstacles with PayPal acceptance too.

I am not using any online trackable DC.
This is a decision we have to make, like my banker once told me-you want to be in business of selling, you want to make money, just make sure you make enough to cover some losses, there is no such thing as smooth sailing.
Bad debts is part of the business of selling.

With the new USPS scanning of label regulations that start this year they must scan ALL packages. So it does not have to be a Express Mail package anymore. Here's a copy of the tracking for a Global Airmail Parcel Post package to Canada from the US. Note every facility must now scan tha package.

That IS good news!

WHAT are they using for tracking -- the CUSTOMS barcode?

BTW: Ralphie comments that it seems like a lot of work just to deliver ONE BULLET!

Yes, from my understanding the customs form barcode is now used. With the USPS now including indemnity coverage on all international packages I guess they thought it was a good idea to be able to track what they were insuring. It was a decision made by the UPU (United Postal Union) a couple of years ago and they have been working on implementing. This is one reason they have made changes to the PS Form 2976A form. If you order this form now you will notice it has changed. USPS employe's are now required to scan all international packages. So if they refuse just complain to the post master. Print out the bellow and tell them to look up the reg's themselves in US Postal Bulletin number 22167.

Scanning Requirements for Global Express Mail and for Air, Surface/Economy, and Insured Parcel Post Items

All inbound and outbound Global Express Mail® (EMS®) and air, surface/economy, and insured international parcel post items must be scanned or manually entered at retail acceptance and/or delivery. Scanning information allows the Postal ServiceTM to provide customers with mail status information via the Product Tracking System and to respond to customer inquiries in a prompt and cost-effective manner.

Effective January 1, 2006, the following scan events, as appropriate, need to be provided for all international parcels (both air and surface parcels):

• Inbound Arrival (AR).

• Attempted Delivery (02).

• Refused (04).

• Undeliverable as Addressed (05).

• Return to Sender (09).

• Dead Letter (11).

• Final Delivery (03).

• Signature on Delivery.

Also effective January 1, 2006, the Postal Service will be liable for loss, damage, or rifling for all ordinary (which is identified by the Customs label) and insured parcels sent to and from the United States. Accurate acceptance and delivery scanning information is essential for appropriate Postal Service handling of indemnity claims and to prevent revenue loss.

For international EMS items and parcels, remember to scan and follow all prompts before getting the signature from the addressee. Specifically, remember to do the following:

• Scan the barcode or, if a barcode is unavailable or unreadable, enter the article number manually.

• Enter the appropriate event.

• Follow the prompts on your scanner screen.

• Obtain the recipient's signature.

• Scan the barcode on PS Form 3849, Delivery Notice/Reminder/Receipt, with the recipient's signature.

Retail employees are also reminded to use the handheld scanner to capture the above information for "left-notice" parcels and for parcels that customers pick up from Post Office box addresses.

Some countries may place on the parcel a nonbarcoded label or a stamped endorsement with a handwritten article number. Under these circumstances, follow the manual entry procedures to enter the data into your scanner.

Following the procedures above will help improve customer service and reduce potential liability for missing scan data. Your assistance in obtaining this scan data is appreciated.

once again, how is all that scanning going to help us sellers ??
If paypal cannot or will not access these codes, then we will lose if someone says they did not receive the package.
And for those who have merchant account, how do indivdual sellers access those codes to present it to the customer cc issuer when there is a chargeback??

bizzy,

If you and the buyer both have spotless feedback you might consider US cash well concealed inside an inner sealed envelope. It's easy to buy US$ in the UK at most Post Offices, Banks and Bureaus de Change. However suggest buyer doesn't send it registered as this screams "steal me", but rather gets a certificate of posting. Also have buyer seal all edges so tampering is immediately evident.

Another option we have used in the past is to have buyer send payment via mail direct to our bank branch with enclosed note to credit to our bank account.

To access the information all you have to do is enter the customs form number in the USPS websites track and confirm for online tracking.

I agree cash is nice, I still like green backs. But since ebay implemented their new rules if you put that you accept cash "mailed" to you they will end your auction for breaking ebay policy rules. You can still accept cash in person if a person is picking up a item in person but that does not happen to often.

I print all of my international shipping labels now through Paypal. It is only available for Airmail Parcel and faster services but that's fine for me because Airmail parcel is the lowest priority shipping service I use anymore because sometimes it takes over 30 day transit times of surface parcel's so I don't ship surface anymore. So much easier, pay your postage online, print your combined postage and customs form and you get a copy to keep that also get's postmarked showing the post office received your package. The same services are also available on the USPS click and ship service.
