I've had this pendant for a while now and only remembered it today while going through things I haven't sold. I tried last year through Gotheborg to find out about it, but didn't have much luck. Jewelry is not their forte! Anyway, I know it's a Chinese Tang Fat Lady. When I Google this, I get all sorts of things not related (fat lady sings, etc.) and loads of pottery.
Any suggestions on where to go next? John, my usual source for anything oriental that I'm stumped on is in Machu Picchu (yes, what a lucky dog to get that trip as a birthday gift) so asking him is out of the question. I believe it to be Gold. It's 1" long and 1/2" wide. I'm stumped at this point.
Thanks a bunch!
Edited to add: It's box shaped and does not open.

According to Ralphie, this is a "Dead Cricket Coffin Pendant" (note the crossed-arms-over-the-chest pose)
According to ancient Chinese-doggy wisdom: One places one's deceased pet cricket into the pendant (after said pet cricket has sadly departed this mortal coil) and hang it around yer neck! The resulting "aroma" keeps evil spirits (SUCH AS: djinn; Republicans; K-Street lobbyists; ID fanatics; Yankees fans) far away!
As David Steinberg used to say to his dog:
"Booga, booga, booga..."
It's definitely not brass. Could be a gold wash over silver. I'll not know for sure until John gets back and I can have him test it. John did see it briefly last year and said "gold" right away. However, he was going to see what he could find out about it. We both forgot (old age is Hell) about it and it's been sitting in a box ever since. Guess the mystery will remain until he gets back and can look through his books.

This is probably made in HK to ride this Tang dynasty wave when they unearthed all those clay figurines,I doubt it is solid gold or solid silver as it is most likely made for the export market and most export jewelry is not high in gold content.
