I just received an envelope with about 100 clipped coupons from a buyer. Almost had a heart attack. Could not believe she thought she could pay me with coupons!

While pondering what to do, I was sifting thru the coupons (most of them expired) when I found her check. Neatly folded so it was hiding inside all the "paperwork". Any one else ever see THIS before???

Good thing I was home. My DH had opened the envelope and almost trashed it before he thought to ask me about it. I almost tossed it too. That check was amazingly well hid.

She problably meant to send the coupons to someone else. I'd just return them with their item.

Weirdest Payment Received... was actually one we requested way back in 2000. A collector made a large purchase from our inventory and I noticed that they were also an occasional seller of coins, so I suggested a swap as partial payment. You have to realize that gold prices had bottomed out in 2000 and well who doesn't like gold coins especially cheap ones? We took some Kugerrands off their hands as a good part of the deal... Love the weight of them (or any gold jewelry for that matter).

I don't know about weirdest, but the most humorous was one which payed me for a $13.48 sale with U.S. coins taped to the paper inside of the envelope, the amount they sent was $13.50 and they had a note that said something like "Thanks for the great sale. Keep the change!" And I don't think they were intentionally trying to be funny or sarcastic.

I had a guy send me $300 in cash once. He told me what he was going to do ahead of time, and I tried every way in the world to talk him into sending a money order instead, but he insisted on cash.

Luckily it arrived just fine, but I practically held my breath until it got here!

He didn't use any kind of tracking. Had I been so inclined, I could've told him that I didn't get the money, stuck it in my pocket, and relisted the item.

We get cash quite often from certain countries we sell to, mostly those with a large 'black' economy. Many arrive in nondescript envelopes with no tracking or registration - and haven't lost a payment yet. From anecdotal evidence anything sent via Registered Mail is more likely to be stolen or tampered with enroute.

For added safety and to prevent disputes over the amount enclosed we learnt (through experience) to have the cash funneled direct to our main offshore bank by post. Cash goes in an inner envelope with markings "to be opened in presense of two bank employees" along with a deposit slip bearing our numbered account.

I have one customer that always likes to pay with unused postage stamps. Better than Euros which I also get!

I wonder if the coupons were her way of hiding the check so it didn't show through the envelope? Very strange - I wish you'd email her and ask what the deal was - inquiring minds want to know...

Today I was furiously processing my mail payments (because nasty eBay took their automatic payment a WEEK early) and low and behold, there was one full of coupons! No, it wasn't from Lt Ray and it did have the cash in it, too. It looks like sender found a clever way of recycling her junk mail to hide the cash.
