My computer has been doing an installation for about an hour and a half now. I'm thinking I should shut down - that there must be something wrong? Will that be an error on my part.

Try to cancel the install program first. CTRL, ALT, Delete buttons at same time and close the install program if it is listed or go to processes may find it there. Plus you can see which process is running so much maybe.
May all depend on what you are installing and if you left antivirus enabled.???

Are you installing an Anti-Virus program?

One thing I learned the hard way is that PC's don't like having more than ONE AV proggie installed at a time -- ye MUST un-install the previous program 100% (and I do MEAN 100%) before installing a different AV program...

PLUS: I truly HATE CrapAfee programs...

I didn't start anything - it's a free program that is updating????
I don't want to really screw anything up but this is taking a bit too long??

Hmm, looks like mine is doing the same thing. I'm on a cellular modem though and not Comcast. Has been installing for the last 15 minutes.

Shut it down it won't do any harm. My guess is the download lost contact with your computer. Your computer is waiting for the next set of instructions which may never come.

I couldn't shut it down either.
I ended up having to take the battery out.
It looks fine now. Hope it was not an important update?
Thanks everyone

Mine was doing it yesterday and I just Cntrl-Alt-Del and closed it. Tried rebooting the computer and it started to do the same thing. Closed it down again. Has not happened today. I did notice that it did update today but the installation completed. They might have had a glitch yesterday and got it fixed today.
