Was computing some stuff today and was thinking about the old glorious days on Ebay.
Do any of you remember the days when you used to get a minimum 75% sell thru rate or more?
Then the last couple of years been falling to around the 40-50% rate and now it seems you cant get past 20%.
Used to get high prices and now you sit here with no bids or real low ball offers.
Store items are fine, but man those auctions are tanking!
It does not matter what we list. Collectibles, vintage tee shirts, you name it. Some weeks real good and others a bust.

I liked the good ole days before the Watchlist feature. People actually bidded early, instead of watching items bidding during the last hour or forgeting to bid at all.

I started selling on eBay in April of 1998. Yes, those were the glory days. If only I had the good sense to sell all my in-stock inventory back then. I have some very nice 1800's leather-bound books that would have sold for hundreds of dollars back then...now I'm lucky if I could get anything over $20 for them. The moment is lost forever I'm afraid.

I actually think I get more for my listing's now day's. Might have something to do with the fact that my listing's are made with Vendio using their templets and Image Hosting so the picture quality is better and the listing's look more professional. I mainly sell on ebay motors and sell used auto and heavy truck repair tools, factory repair manuals and parts and of course the occasional other odd ball item. But overall my final auction prices have greatly increased over the years. More watchers, more questions, more bidders and more money at the end. And ebay even lowered most fee's this year

Does ebay now give out instructions to newbie not to bid until the last second or two now? I guess the watch-list helps.
I wish I had a quarter for every time someone wrote after the auction and said I planned to bid but .....

For a while I was overrun with emails about people missing the end of the auction. I made a seperate column with this in my buyer information rules section.
General buyers information Back to Top
I get a request about every two weeks from someone asking about a auction they missed or didn't win. Usually goes like this. "I missed your auction and was woundering if you could cancel the auction to the winner and sell it to me, I'll pay more". My answer has, is, and will continue to be """"NO, NO, NO"""". It's not fair to the person who won the auction and also against ebay rules. It's real simple people, if you want the item, bid on it. Don't blame me or ebay if you wait until the last few seconds to place your bid and miss it. I have even had people tell me that they use a "sniping" program or service and it was down or not working so they missed placing a bid. Sorry about your bad luck. Play fair like the rest of us and just place your bid, if you win or loose, that's the fun of a auction.
