Got this email from PP...seems like someone sent payment in Euros and evidently I set prefs to not accept (I don't remember doing this but ok..)...if I accept the euros do they convert to $ or keep a separate Euro account in PP or ??

Anyone else have this happen?

I received an email just like that. There IS a link to click on and they're probably hoping that you would click on that rather than going the long way through paypal. I DID click on the help button in Paypal and nothing was there.

This one was for real. I just went to "history" and found the payment with an "accept" or "deny" button. I accepted and when I did I got an opportunity to convert to dollars or establish a Euro account within my PP account. Weird that this is the first one I have received in at least a thousand European transacitons!

I got one like it, went into PayPal the long way and I did have money waiting for me. I said I would accept the Euros and they deposited them (in USD equiv. in my account).

I've received one too - had never had one before - also got a spoof recently from Paypal that used my real name in the salutation - very scary!

I never worry about all these scary emails from my banks and brokers. Why? Well, all the banks and financial institutions I do business with, will never, ever attempt to contact me via anything so insecure as email (it would violate numerous banking privacy laws). Online banking is usually via software supplied by the banks or brokers, secured using one-time pads or individual security certificates and transmitted over VPNs.

I agree agit - banks and brokers no..but PAYPAL isn't either and marches, unregulated, to its own drummer. One never knows what sort of loose cannon could be sending PayPal emails and what kind of impact it could have on your business. You have to read, and sometimes act, on the dang things and the bad guys know this. I never click on PayPal email links no matter how scary they sound and clear out my account regulary. PayPal's account information has been compromised more than once.

My sister uses her PP account to pay ebay and her debit card to withdraw funds on a regular basis. One time without warning PP denied her access to her account saying several of their accounts had been compromised. They wouldn't tell her how it had been compromised but led her to believe that thousands of accounts were involved. They tied up her money for several days until they could "secure" the account once again. Who knows, maybe they needed the money - who's to stop them from doing that to a few thousand accounts every now and again and how much do they make on the float???
