Hi, all: I've listed and sold a few books on Amazon in the past couple of months. I notice there's a category called "collectible." How do I list something in that category? I have some books that are out of print and not available in "regular" Amazon books. Is there some trick I'm not aware of?

I haven't sold there in six months or so, but "Collectible" used to be just another condition, like "New, or Used - Acceptable".
"some books that are out of print and not available in "regular" Amazon books."
I'm not sure what you mean by that, there are millions of out of print books that you can still list as a marketplace seller.
What I'm guessing is that these are OLD books that were published before the ISBN system was developed. You cannot list books without an ISBN on Marketplace- you would need to add those to a zShop.
Again, my info is at least six months old, so something may have changed, but I doubt it.

Not much has changed on AMZN marketplace, zshop, dunno about its auction.
You should ask AMZN what is meant by collectible,I have seen some sellers listing their books as collectible, those are usually OOP books ,before AMZN,they are hard to find, such as Alberto Vargas books,Andy Warhol.
Dont forget the 99 cents transaction fee and the 15% commish when you list a book on marketplace.

Okay, next time I list on Amazon I'll see if "collectible" is one of the options given in Marketplace. Otherwise, I may need to look into Zshops by finding a message board dealing with Amazon. Thanks, you two.

If you are Pro-Merchant account seller, then the zShop is already free for you- just list it from your seller page. If not, you'll need to become one, which is a little beyond the scope of the eBay board, but basically, you pay them $39.99 a month, and pay a slightly lower fee bracket on your sales and have access to your own zShop, kind of like an EBay Store.

Thanks, Dr. A. I'm not ready to give Amazon $40 a month to sell in Zshops. I'll figure something else out.

Collectible (with the various conditions) are found among the other drop-down choices when you select your book's condition when listing. This category is only supposed to be used when the item has something that makes it special, like an autograph, but in reality it is used mostly by people who want to be separated by the many copies in the Used category.
An old, OOP book is not necessarily "collectible." You are likely to see other copies like yours listed in the Used category.
This info is based on many hundreds of Amazon sales.

Copies of old OOP books frequently can't be listed on Amazon because there's no ISBN. Sometimes I get lucky, but that's the problem I faced this morning, trying to list some older books.
So then, what I wonder is this--Do people go onto Amazon and search specifically for "collectible" books, or do they come up in regular book searches?

There is no way just to view the books which are described as 'collectibles'.
Books without ISBN numbers may be better off listed in Ebay store.

roadie -- I beg to differ. I have often listed books without an ISBN on AMZ marketplace, locating by title and/or author. Here are two examples in my listings:
In Quest of Virgil's Birthplace
The open air churches of sixteenth century Mexico; atrios, posas, open, chapels and other studies
hwahwa is correct, you can't search just collectible books (What does HWA stand for, anyway? Is he a practitioner of the martial art Hwa Rang Do? Is he a fan of the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, that bane of Eastern conifers? Does he have some relation to Hans-Weinberger-Akademie, the esteemed Bavarian institute? I would guess that he is Herbert W. Armstrong, but Herbert is dead)

Pelorus--Yep, I guess I didn't make a lot of sense with that comment. But in my experience it's hit or miss. Some older books are listed on Amazon Marketplace and I can sell them that way; others are not. They warn sternly not to attempt to sell a different edition of a book they have listed with a different edition--the way we often used to do it on Half.com. Have you done this successfully??

roadie -- I do sometimes list a book under a different edition on Amazon. They seem to have a lower sell rate, though. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you are very clear about it in the description.
What I don't like is when someone lists a product as like new and then says something like "owner name written in" or "jacket torn."

Pelorus: I read, this morning, a paragraph somewhere on Amazon warning that one could get kicked off their site if we list a book that's not the exact edition Amazon has up for sale. Now I can't find that paragraph anywhere on Amazon, but I know I read it.
I've done that many times in the past on Half.com, but the sternly worded paragraph on Amazon put the fear of the lord into me.

Hwa is my mother 's name, thats all.
Amzn is stricter than Half,it has been doing some dealer cleansing as its A to Z Buyer protection is getting out of hand.
Some sellers have been pleading and pleading with AMZN to let them back in,but AMZN wont budge!!
