Made a trip into the post office this morning to drop off some heavy packages that I didn't want to load my carrier down with and got to talking with the Postmaster. I'm not sure if you all remember the total lack of knoledge of the postal employee's concerning the new internatinal shipping standards regarding the new indemnity coverage and package scanning requirements. About two weeks ago I sent a 5 page letter via certified mail off to the Postmaster Generals office in Washington DC expressing my concerns. Well it looks like someone took note and did something about it.
My local Postmaster informed me that yesterday in their emails that they get when they sign into their terminals that there was a letter from the PMG's office concerning the new "free" indemnity coverage and what the new international scanning requirements are. He said it looks like my letter to the top worked.
It's amazing what you can accomplish when you go to the man (or woman) at the top. So hopefully my letter has "gotten the word out" and your local post offices will start scanning all your international Parcel Post customs forms and allow for online tracking. I would be interested to hear from some of you if when you take in international Parcel Post packages that the counter reps are now scanning the customs forms bar codes. I no longer have a problem because I have my local postal employee's "trained" but I am curious to see if my letter and the resulting information release really did any good for the rest of you.

Hi Mike,
I know that there has been a recent thread about the scanning of International items. Does that mean that most items sent now can qualify for Paypal's seller protection for International transactions. I thought that someone stated that they do not have any problems shipping to Canada.

I'm not sure about the Paypal aspect. I have never really worried about it much since so far I have never had a problem with international shipments that went as far as a Paypal complaint (keeping fingers crossed and knocking on wood that I don't). Basically what the new scanning of Parcel Post customs forms get's you is the same thing you get with domestic delivery confirmation but with a few additional scan's along the way. How does Paypal feel about it, I guess we would have to email them and ask them. Maybee I'll drop them a email later this evening and ask.

It must have been somewhat of a isolated problem, or maybe just not a problem in my area. I simply cannot remember the PO not scanning my international packages. They always do it just before they put the customs form into the stick on envelope.
