I've looked all over the net, and I can't figure out what pattern this is. My copy of Kovel's is sparse on Herend marks, so I can't even date this thing that appears to be a sugar bowl.
As always, the help of the forum members is sincerely appreciated.

Here's what I found.
This link describes the marking you have.
This mark commonly called on Hungary as "Student Mark " .
It represent third class items, mostly painted by student painters.
Drastic reduction in value
Many times misrepresented as an "antique" mark. http://www.gemtrading.com/seconds.html
The otwa board link has some good links.

I found this ebay listing that has a sugar bowl with a similar rose ornament on the lid but no handles. http://tinyurl.com/cgdg2
Actually, after doing some searching it looks like the rose ornament on the lid is found on many pieces I found.

Thank you Vintage for your kind words. I was actually just thinking that I had placed the lights too high, and that the lower part of the bowl was too much darker than the lid, especially in the first photo. I try to improve every day, and some day, perhaps in my lifetime, I'll know what I'm doing
Mike, Thanks! With considerable affection, and in line with Frank Zappa's "Dancin' Fool", I must say that you're a "Googlin' Fool." How did I miss all those links? I might just have to go back to drinking coffee. I think I've dropped 20 IQ points since I decided to hold myself to 1/2 cup each morning... and it's not like I had a few dozen to spare

1/2 cup of coffee a day I think I would die!
I drink about two 12 cup pot's full a day (might be why I'm up 18-19 hours a day). In fact I drink a bug mug full just before going to bed.
I do all my internet search with dogpile. http://www.dogpile.com/ My bar none favorite search engine. It gives you the top search results from all the big search engines but in one page. I found all the above links in about 2 or 3 minutes and I think they were all on the first results page.

Mike, I was getting some kind of reflux, which rhymes with sucks. Cutting back on coffee has helped with that. I had previously cut back to 3 or 4 cups a day, on which I can function.
I'll try that search engine.

I was wondering if that would put the chill into ralphie.
I bought that thing at a auction when I was only around 12 or 13 years old and have had it ever since. Made the mistake of using it as a prank on a buddy "one time", and that was the last time. Made the mistake of setting on the opposite side of the table and when he had a mouthful of coffee and was lowering it back down to the table he looked into it. Needless to say the coffee in his mouth ended up all over me.
