this one shocked me at how badly it has been handled. Frontier airlines is running a rather cute campaign to advertise their flights from Denver to Mexico where flip the Dolphin is complaining that he is not on the route and threatening to quit if he is not added. they have set up a website for people to sign an online petition, ads with mock news reports on the "grass roots" campaigns to get him there etc. Part of the campaign has been the "Flip Mobile - an old Crown Vic repainted complete with a plane like tail section featuring a pic of Flip. They have put the car up for auction on ebay but given it almost zero promotion. Once you toss in the dark pics in the auction it's not surpirising that the auction ends at 8am tomorrow Denver time tomorrow and is doing miserably.

Too bad - it's a great campaign - probably could have done much better if they had had someone with even a modicum of Ebay savvy involved in the auction side.

Or at least someone smart enough to take the pictures IN DAYLIGHT!

I've never heard of Frontier Airlines--- Are they a small regional airline? If so, that might explain the lack of interest.

The commercials are at:

Bad marketing, indeed. Whoever concocted that auction seems to think the whole world knows about Flip and Frontier.

I'd never heard of either.

The car is kind of cool-looking, though.

I would agree that it is zero promotion.

Frontier is not even mentioned in the auction. Are you sure the auction is even sanctioned by Frontier?

Dr.A, Frontier is well known in the Western states. They are based out of Denver and even fly to Cleveland!

Fenix, I just checked their website and found no mention of Flip or the auction.

If you live in Denver you see the commercials alot (or if you have been out of town and DVRed all your favorites). From the FliptoMexico.com website there may be some coverage in the Chicago area (Where they want to keep Flip on the Chicago route). Their regular ads are very cute featuring various animals from their tail in conversation and song. Funny cute, smart and sarcastic (any wonder why I like them?)

Doc - they are a Southwest Airlines type company - low fares with predominantly short hop flights, growing...

LT - it's on the website that accompanies the ad campaign and "Flip" even mentions on his blog that the auctions lack of success is embarrassing.

I thought Dr.A was kidding. These idiots actually took the pictures at night. What a bunch of dummies. I hope their pilots have more brains than their marketing people. If not, I'll take a bus.

It might be to hide the imperfections in the car. Note that the condition is "Salvage and it almost looks as though the fin is held on by tape but ... damn ... it's just sad to see a good company make such beginner mistakes.

What a piece of well how shall we say, crap. It even looks like the molding is held on with electrical tape. Hmm, Salvage title but they state it will pass state inspection, something's fishy here (pun intended).

Those who never heard of Frontier airlines likely never heard of Hooters air lines either
