this is made in occp. japan with sample on the bottom has anyone seen this befor? and what catagory should i put this in? you guys have pulled me out of prob. bfore so thank you again hope this works

I Brimic, I have not seen the "Sample" stamp before, but the mug itself looks suspiciously chinese repro. Does it feel like it has some age to it? The reproductions in this market have all but ruined the resale on the originals.

I think it's definitely a repro. The handpainting isn't nearly as meticulous as on the real Toby jugs and mugs. And the white porcelain? pottery? is too white.
However, "occupied japan" is a collectible sub-sub-subcategory under Pottery/China (mixed in with the makers' names). I'd try it there.
