While my 3 negs are underserved (retaliatory), I'll always remember the one I should have gotten but didn't. When I was VERY new to selling, I boxed up a whole bunch of mugs and "packed" them in plastic bags (like you get at the grocery story)...one mug per bag. Shipped them all off to California in a large box and, no surprise, several arrived broken. The long-ago buyer was very nice and understanding and we resolved the situation amicably. I learned my lesson and now pack everything well but will always be thankful to that early customer who could have given me a most-deserved neg but didn't. Any other similiar stories?

I think it's a common situation. I honestly do not believe that I deserved my 10 negatives. However, there have been times when I screwed up, dealt with the problem honestly and treated the customer with respect, and wound up with a positive. I'm too embarassed to admit how many more than 10 of those there are

When I was fairly new to eBay, I screwed up three orders. I sent all three boxes to the wrong people! Thankfully, all three of them laughed it off and sent them on to where they belonged. I PayPal's shipping to each of them. I've been far more careful ever since. I got good feedback from all three.

Early on, I sent a vintage covered butter dish to Canada. I carefully wrapped in it white tissue paper and placed shredded paper all around it, top, bottom & sides. I was so proud of myself! Well, of course, the top was broken. Fortunately, my buyer wrote and said she wanted to keep it anyway and would I partially refund? I did so right away and she explained how one must pack items as though the P O will play football with the package. No neg and a really great lesson.

I had no idea about bubble wrap and peanuts way back then! What a dufus I was.

I've been astounded at how patient and kind buyers can be over goofs I've made. Sending two books to the wrong sellers, asking them to send on to the correct one. Packing a flat pottery tray in a rather flat priority box with what I thought was good bubble wrap but didn't work, etc. Many of them should have negged but didn't. Random acts of kindness.

Ditto, I went through the time and expense to insure a $160 postcard and then sent it to the wrong customer! The winning bidder had to wait 6 weeks before I got it back. I did find and sent him a similar one I found on eBay for $3 in compensation for the hassle - but that was way after he left positive feedback.

I just received a neg from a buyer that bid on an item, I send him an invoice via ebay and via paypal telling him how he can pay for the $9.00 item. The sale ended last week. Today I get a neg from the @#$% buyer stating that I did not contact him/her with payment instructions. AHH that really pissed me off. Some people just do not know how to read emails.

I would also say the 3 neg's I have were not deserved and were just retalitory because the buyer couldn't read the auction description and terms of sale. The couple of times I did screw up I do everything in my power to straighten out the mess. In fact a few weeks ago I screwed up on a truck tire sale. They were listed as different manufacturers but the same size. However in the tire business just because a tire has the same size printed on it as another maker does not mean they are the exact same size. I didn't check these two tires side by side and one was about 3/4 of a inch shorter than the other. Refunded the buyers money and got this positive feedback "UnbelievablyEthicalGuyWillTakeCareOfYouGuaranteedOnAScaleOfOneToTenYourAnEleven!" He also emailed me and told me how he thought he was going to get screwed over. He apparently had been scamed recently more than once on ebay and thought this is how this transaction was going to go. He also said something like "You have restored my faith in mankind.". I think the most glowing feedbacks I have ever gotten were screw up's on my part but I took care of the problem.

Chessguy, report your buyer to ebay for incorrect contact information. It won't get rid of the neg, but it may get him NRU.

Sadly, though, Classic's pussy picked up some bad habits (along with an EXTREME make-over) during the long journey home...
