I thought I could spot a spoof email almost instantly but this one was a new approach on this sleazy game for me! It came disguised as a question from a potential bidder coming through the eBay system. It looked just like the real ones that I get all the time with all the eBay logos and verbage and included an urgent personal message from the potential bidder to answer the shipping cost question right away. Since I don't memorize my item numbers I clicked on the highlighted item number/link to find out what item the question was about only to go to an eBay sign-in page asking for my eBay member name and my password in order to view the auction page itself. Thankfully bells started ringing for me so I stopped right there and decided to just look at My eBay page to find the item myself. The item number referred to in the Spoof email did not match any number in my list. At this point I was convinced I was almost Phished out of my info so I forwarded the email to eBay for confirmation. They quickly responded that my fears were right on, it was phoney and malicious in intent. In my rush to provide fast service during an already busy day I almost caused myself a huge problem in my unthinking haste. Whew! So FYI boys and girls, email could be the devil in disguise.

I've gotten that one and also the one that told me a bid was cancelled on one of my items (not one of my items as it turned out). THose bad guys are even learning to speak Englush (or maybe they are native English-speaking bad guys). Such a PIA for us and you can imagine how less seasoned sellers react!

Ok, everyone, repeat after me," NEVER, never, never ever click on a link in an email from PayPal, Ebay, your credit card company, a bank, your mother. NEVER!!
Whyd did I include your Mother? She and anyone else you know who does not use their computer for anything other than email probably is not up to date on spam, spoofs and email viruses.

It is amazing how I only receive these spoofs at the email that is associated with my Ebay/Paypal accounts and I receive at least 7 or 8 spoofs per WEEK.
None of the other email addies that I use get more than 2 or 3 a YEAR.
I am concerned that lately the spoofs have been addressing the emails to my first name. How do they know this? I have for years felt that Ebay has some flaws regarding security.

POLLONEV is an Ebay user and is valid at this time. Maybe someone hijacked his account as it is registered in Australia and your spoof lists the address in Phoenix. Be sure to report this to Ebay ASAP.

I get ASQ emails using real bidder's names all the time. Never answer an ASQ outside of eBay's system! Answer them from within your My eBay. It's a simple rule that won't trip you up. They are not highjacking these accounts, they're searching for real names of real sellers and bidders and using them.
