The zip +4 provided by Endicia turned out to be wrong and my customer didn't get his package. Didn't believe him and called Bethesda MD and yes, Endicia was wrong. Now, package in limbo (hopefully will be returned). Anyone else had this problem?
Thanks
Beth

Can't say I have ever heard of that problem. I thought they cross referenced the address and zip to the USPS data base to get the +4 extenssion. Have you tried going to the USPS website and punching in the address and see if the postal service website comes up with the same wrong info? Just punch in the address and zip and then click submit. Their system then add's the +4 extenssion.

USPS:
10009 XXXXXXX
BETHESDA MD 20817-1717

ENDICIA:

10009 XXXXXXX
BETHESDA MD 20892-0001

I don't know what the deal is. I am going to email Endicia. I checked my Preferences and I have the dial-a-zip activated. Just strange.

Beth - This is quite a coincidence that you had your problem today. I just signed up with Endicia this morning. I had a couple of questions about different label style setups and just got off the phone with one of their tech rep's. I asked about your problem while I was on the phone with her and she said it is possible that the +4 could have been wrong for a couple of different reasons

One reason could be that if it shipped to a appartment complex or office type building that has suite numbers the building itself has a +4 default code and each suite or appt. has it's own +4. If the suite or appt# was entered wrong it may have gone to the default +4 for the building and may be currently setting in their mail room awaiting distribution.

The second reason she told me about was that the USPS updates their +4 zip code index every week but only releases this information to companies like Endicia only every 2 months. So if there was a change in the zip code district within this 2 month update window it is possible that the +4 code could be wrong.

In the end she said if it can not be delivered it should be sent back to the return addresse which is you. Hope everything works out in the end.

I have been printing labels out all morning and am tickeled pink with how easy Endicia is to use. GOD, WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS A LONG TIME AGO. I also did a little figuring and it comes out that I will make a little money using Endicia also. I pay with my PayPal debit card so I get a cash back everytime I buy postage. I calculate I will actually make about 4 or 5 dollars a month over and above the $15.95 premium Endicia plan charge. Can't get any better than this. Just go to vendio post sale, click download postage data, Endicia opens and I click print shipping label. Walla, done. No more clicking back and forth between vendio and PayPal's shipping label service.

Looks like you posted while I was typing. Why not give them a call instead of waiting for a email response. Their toll free number is 1-800-576-3279. Use extenssion 130 for their tech department. They are very helpful.

Well, I was playing around and now I can get Endicia to accept both addresses as residental and OK!
Heck this is the first problem I have had and I love Endicia. Hopefully the package will be returned. I did email them tho.

Thanks all!

I just did a search on the USPS site and the 20892 zip is a unique zip code. Here's what it has for information about it.

"Special Cases
Unique – The ZIP Code™ is used for a specific company or organization."

It is possible that there was a zip code district change like I mentioned above.

Actually, this did happen to me (with endicia too) - Buyer pays, I ship, doesn't get package. I ask him for his address, and sure enough it is different than the one I have on file. I was really confused, but when I verified his address though endicia, it changed it to the one I had. The guy had no idea what was going on, only he did not have his item. It was a pretty low price item, so rather try to figure it out, I decided to refund.

A rather odd postscript to the story - Since he paid by check, I mailed a check to his mailing address (which was not a home address) and my check came back as undeliverable. What was even odder, is that when I told the customer about this, he gave me his home address, I tried again, and again my check came back to me as undeliverable! I never heard back from him either, so he didn't get his money (though I tried twice) and he didn't get his item (at least not according to delivery confirmation) - It definitely was one of the strangest transactions I've ever had. The poor guy must not get anything in the mail. Anyway, I never went further with it, and because it only happened once in 14,000 endicia mailings, I figured it wasn't worth my time to figure it out.

ebayvet - 1 in 14,000. Now if we could get ebay's track record in that range for not having problems.

Yeah, we can dream! I've been with Endicia now for about 16 months, I love it. It really has made a significant improvement on how fast I can ship.
