Does anyone else get annoyed when they click a link from active search and see the seller is vacation?

I think eBay needs to at least give us a watch button so we can wait for the seller to return.

There is currently no way to watch the item or view who the Seller is so that I might see when the item might be available again. There is no indication of how long the store will be on vacation, etc, etc.

So Store Sellers, drop a bug in eBay's ear. I want to be able to watch a store item until the seller returns! I've found 3 things this week that I wanted to buy but could not even save in my Ebay. That is 3 sales that you missed. And by next week I won't be able to remember how I found them in the first place.

Just think of all the impulse sales that are being missed.

Why can't you bookmark them in your browser?

If the sellers were truly interested in selling, they wouldn't have put their stores on Vacation status to begin with. IMHO.

I have put my Store on vacation when I am away and plan to do so again next week.

When the Seller does that they have several choices...if I am going away for 3-4 days I leave the items showing and the "Vacation Notice" shows to all Buyers BUT there is a section that can be personalised to say just how long you will be away and I always say that people are welcome to buy while I am gone and I will handle on my return.

As I am going to be away for 3 weeks this time I will opt to not show my items but again the Notice will appear saying when I will be back.

Could you not add the Seller to your "Favourite Seller's list in
My EBay"?

The Vacation Settings are quite easy for the Seller to understand so it really shouldn't be a problem for them to get it right so that wonderful Buyers like you will be able to see at a glance when they will return.

I just returned from 2 week trip to Mom's. I ran auctions so didn't want to close down shop but couldn't ship store items during the 2 weeks. I put a notice in my store and on every listing and as far as I can see,the notice didn't detract buyers.

ltray - if the seller is a reputable one, why not buy and either wait to pay until the seller returns or pay now and wait?

This is not aimed at you personally, but there is nothing that I want on eBay that I cannot get much faster than 3 weeks by some other means: Amazon, other eBay sellers, Stanford Shopping Center.

There's no law that says everyone has to be serious about selling, but even brick/mortar antique stores very rarely close down for three weeks. In retail, that's forever.

The problem I am experiencing is that you can not see the seller's ID or the item number.

The next time I come across one, I'll post it here.

When you click the auction link from a search, it does not take you to the auction. Instead, you get a generic web page with about 4 lines of text that says the Seller is on vacation and the item is not available. The rest of the message gives a link to learn about vacation settings. It is rather annoying.

Why does eBay still have the items in the search if you can't see the item?

Added- Not to be redundant, but the page it takes me to does not have the item number or the seller's Id. Just that annoying message.

Ah. I think I know what you mean; I've gotten that myself.

You're right: That's stupidly designed.

I must disagree. The watch system is very bad for Ebay and sellers. It causes watching instead of bidding.

In your case, if the seller is on vacation, find a different seller.

stonecold613 - I would disagree also but with you. As a ebay seller and a ebay buyer.

As a seller I have the watch numbers turned off on my ebay page so I don't have to watch it and wonder how many are going to bid. Useless feature to me as a seller.

As a ebay buyer I love it. If it was not available I would probably not bid on as many items. With it I can keep a eye on a couple of similar items and bid on or buy the one that is either the best buy or best suits my needs. As a buyer I would be completly lost without it and would have to resort to mountians of post-it notes stuck all over the place with ebay numbers on them. The end result would be I would miss the end of many auctions. With ebay toolbar I get a warning when a watch item is getting close to end time and has alerted me to a auction I forgot about many times, thereby getting the seller a bid they would have lost otherwise.

Stone, your logic might work if I were shopping for PEz dispensers or computers, but I look for unique collectibles. It's not like there are hundreds of them sitting in stores.

I want to be able to bookmark the seller so I can actually see the item in his title. Can't do that with the problem mentioned in the OP.

And no matter how you dislike the Watch list, don't knock the favorite seller's list.

I know I have people checking my auctions on a regular basis just because they know that I sell unusual stuff. I buy some of that "stuff" on eBay because the seller does not know what they have.

I keep a close eye on those sellers to see what else they mis-describe.

Favorite seller list is much different from a watch list.

Favorite seller list notifies you when they list something which would interest you. In turn you go to the item.

A watch list is when you have already been looking at the item and push it off for later. Usually to never return. No bidding, no sale.

Favorite seller function is a good function. Watch list is not.

Fluff,

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me a little when I said I was going on vacation for 3 weeks.
None of my items will be able to be seen but some people have us on their Favourite Seller list and when they want to see what we have listed they will just see a notice saying that we are away until ???.
They will not see anything that we have listed in our EBay Store at all.
This way they know we have not left either EBay or Earth and if they wish can check back at a later date.
The whole excercise is merely a courtesy to our regular buyers so they know we are gone ( on a well deserved vacation) but will be back on ???date.
