Over the years I have been noticing this at garage sales, thrift stores and the like. People get rid of more things that are green, yellow, orange white, cream and muted pastels colored. Green seems to be the most unwanted color. Anyway, I see these colors in clothes, glass and ceramics. Just a weird piece of info I thought I'd throw out there.

I noticed that, too! The ‘preferred’ colors seem to be burgundies, roses, pinks, tans and blues.
Remember a few years ago when the ‘declared’ color of the season was purple -- and its kin? Even cars were coming out in various shades of purple, and they were called “grape”, “eggplant”, etc. Another year it was orange. Not long after that we saw a lot of garage-sale items in purples and oranges. (I remember this because my daughter LOVES purples (not oranges), and she is the one who made this observation.)
For several years, fashion designers tried the “This is the color of the year” declaration. Another way to make our purchases obsolete in a season. Did they give it up? I haven’t noticed a “Color Declaration” in some time...

I hope they get rid of lots of green. My best friend is a green fiend. You should see her house. Tons of jadeite glass, old green-handled kitchen utensils, big pickle jars full of green Bakelite bracelets and buttons...it all looks great.

Interesting topic and timely.
I went on a search for Summer clothing for myself in this past week and the main colours in EVERY store are Turquoise, Coral and Lime Green. I look awful in these colours. As I glanced from the doorway at each store in the Mall I saw a sea of turquoise & coral so didn't even go inside.
For a few years past the clothing manufacturers decreed that we should wear black & white in the Summer...I had enough of that in the Winter.
I love purple, fuschia pink & royal blue...just can't find anything.
Benjamin Moore the Paint manufacturers still have a "Colour Trend" department and each year they still tell us what colours we should have in our homes. Apparently the new neutral is grey.

Otter: QVC has lots of clothes in the colors you like. Check them out sometime.
I know what you all mean about the fuchsia, orange, lime green, etc. Why do they do this to us? And I'm sick of people telling us that brown or gray or blue or green are the "new black." Get off it. Black is black.

Thanks for the tip on QVC.
We are heading to Hawaii next week and I will just have to wait until I get there to buy shorts also as apparently the stores have also ignored the fact that so many of us like to go to warm climates in the Winter.
We just gutted and re-did a bathroom in black & white...it took 3 weeks to wait for a special order of black and white squared vinyl for the floors! It was a "special order" as 'they' have decided that no-one wants that colour or style! I suggested they look in all the Country style decorating magazines at the retro Kitchens & Baths!
I really don't think it is REAL people who make these arbitrary decisions.
Grrr.....

Otter: I've always loved black and white--to wear, to decorate with. I'm sure the fashions in colors that are "in" are changed frequently to encourage us to junk what we have that's perfectly good and buy MORE. Those of us brought up by parents who suffered in the great depression have had it ingrained in us to be frugal (not stingy, not penny-pinching, just careful).
"Use it up,
Wear it out,
Make it do,
or do without."
My dad was minister of a large church in Illinois at one point in his career. The wealthiest family in the church, the ones who gave the most to good causes, were very careful with their money. I remember hearing Dad talk, amazed, at the way the man of the house scraped every bit of jam out of the jar before discarding it. A lesson well learned--I took it to heart.

Hey - if anyone has any green-coloured money they no longer want (because it's unfashionable) then throw it our way! We are not one of the fashionistra brigade so we welcome green currency.
As to colours, Black is very popular here for some reason... sports!
