My friend who has a large family (5 kids)and is single uses this insurance to supplement the insurance she gets through work. Since I will soon be out of a job, I was considering checking it out since Ebay is going to be my sole source of income until I find another one. Has anyone had any experience with this company? She has had good experiences so far and I was wondering if anyone else has any. Anything to watch out for etc?

I think you mean AFLAC. It is supplemental insurance to what ever you have already. They have a good supplemental Medi-Care insurance. I used to sell this years ago. Everything they had was supplemental coverage. They do a good business now because a lot of the insurance that is out there is having co-pays etc. You still need primary coverage.

You probably know this already, but if you had health insurance in your job, odds are you qualify for COBRA, which is (usually) 18 months of continuing coverage. When that expires, there is Cal-COBRA for (I believe) another 18 months.
Or you can get a part-time job at Starbucks (20 hours or more), work long enough to qualify for benefits, then take the three years of COBRA/Cal-COBRA.

AFLAC stands for American Family Life & Casualty/ It is an old line company with a Best A rating. I used to sell it to small groups (less than 50 employees).

I can feel the hail storm falling on my head as I write this one, please be gentle
If you are a ebay power seller you can get discounted rate insurance through them. I don't know anything about it as I do not use it. I just remembered running across it when I originaly hit power seller status. I have my own insurance plan. Might be worth checking out if you are a power seller though.
I just loged into my power seller benefit's page and here's some links on their insurance coverage they offer. It looks like MERCER / ASSURANT is the insurance company ebay teamed up with.
The last one is a short term plan and looks like one you may want to check out. Basic description copied from page.
Short-Term Medical Insurance
Perfect if you are:
* In need of immediate coverage
* Between Jobs
* A Recent College Graduate
* Waiting for Employer Group Coverage
* On strike or Laid off
* Looking for an alternative to COBRA
Short-Term Medical plans provide individual and family coverage from 30 days up to six months. These plans are major medical plans designed to protect you and your family in the event of an illness or injury, and are typically less expensive than traditional individual medical plans.
Q: Is a Short-Term Medical plan the right health coverage for you?*
A: Yes, if you are:
* In need of immediate coverage while you shop and apply for more permanent coverage;
* Between jobs;
* Newly employed and waiting for your group coverage to begin;
* Graduating from college or a recent college graduate;
* A temporary or seasonal employee;
* A dependent no longer covered under your parents' plan;
* On strike, laid-off or a terminating employee;
* A part-time or temporary worker;
* Looking for a lower-cost alternative to COBRA;
* Unable to afford other coverage;
* Expecting to be covered by a permanent medical plan in the next 30 days to six months;
* Need immediate coverage to maintain your credible coverage status.
If you fit into any of these situations, a temporary Short-Term Medical plan may meet your health-insurance needs. For a free Short-Term Medical quote, please select your state above then click "Get Quote."

Ebay power seller insurance plan is no good,the underwriters do not consider Ebay sellers to be a group where they can estimate losses and measure risks,it is just too diverse.
If you and your son are healthy and you have the savings ,look into a high deductible policy say $ 5000,some qualify for HSA-health savings account,which means 3400 dollars of your pretax savings can be invested tax free.
3400 is for single,for family it is more.
Also look into Costco ,I think they offer small business insurance via some insurer,you need at least 2 employees in the company,I think someone on this board looked into it at one time.
