Hi, all. Would you please look at this auction and tell me if you have to scroll right and left to read it all? I have a new template, thanks to my new best friend, Neglus, but I have to scroll a bit to the right to see the whole thing.

It was fine for me. I did not have to scroll left, or right. Nice looking listing.

Thanks for looking! Compliments unnecessary but always appreciated.

So, hmmmm, I wonder why I have to scroll a bit to the right to get it all on the screen? Screen size? And if so is mine more like the typical user's screen, or am I just years behind on the latest screen sizes, as usual?!

Looks good to me. Hey, check out that snazzy book banner at the top

Oh, forgot to add. What size screen are you using? I'm on a 15 1/2 inch widescreen laptop.

Looks great but I do have what may seem a silly observation..

EBay shows a starting price of $9.95. You have one bid..the price is $24.95. It doesn't say reserve met so I assume there wasn't one.

Am I getting really tired and ready for my vacation or ?????

Guess I must be getting tired and ready for a vacation to. That is mighty strange. Might have something to do with the new stupid looking ebay top of listing format?

Classy Ad! Nice work, both of you!

Yes, on my 15" monitor running both Windows and Firefox, the page needs to be scrolled in to see the entire ad.

I had the same problem when I used 100% in my HTML. You are currently using:

<TABLE WIDTH=100% BORDER=0 CELLPADDING=0 CELLSPACING=0>

Try this:

</blockquote><table align=center width=650 border=3 cellpadding=25><tr>

... and change the "width=650 border=3 cellpadding=25" part to suit your needs.

What I've given you above is the 'inner' (green) frame in my listings. I removed the 'outer' frame and do not recall the dimensions I used.

An example:

Hope I did that right!

Pat

Otter: The reserve price was $24.95 and the first bidder hit it - must have used an even higher proxy bid to do that. I have no idea why "reserve price met" isn't showing. Ebay giveth and Ebay taketh away.

PS, Roadsmith...

Idyllwild is where we honeymooned over 45 years ago when we eloped on an over-night leave from the Navy. We stayed in a small motel just out of town, a ramshackle place then and probably long-gone by now, but we loved it! What I remember is the quiet and that the head of the bed collapsed on us that night. Good memories, and lots of laughs over the years!

Lovely place, and a favorite of ours for many years. Two decades have passed since we were last there, but I can see it in my mind's eye as clearly as though I were there yesterday. The 'real' honeymoon, taken later, has faded from memory...

Pat: I've never messed with the html stuff in the auctions and feel very timid about trying. Are you saying that I'd need to make that change every time I use that template? I'm hoping I can go into the Vendio templates and make that change once and for all. Can I go in and monkey with the html there? (I'm afraid of messing up this template inadvertently.)

Try copy/pasteing your template into WordPerfect -- or whatever you use -- add your XXX info into the critical spaces, then go to SELL on eBay and run it up to/but NOT INCLUDING "List this Item".

I always check out my new template using eBay's listing format. Works every time.

And it TAKES time, but once I have the template the way I want it, listing becomes simple.

You will, of course, need to add the </td></tr></table> for the table cancellation at the end of your template.

Pat: Thanks for the further information. I don't list through eBay; I use Vendio, and your advice rather daunts me, technophobe that I am and thinking of going into eBay and then . . . what. . . after I've fixed the template there? How do I fix it in the Vendio templates? (I know I'm sounding stupid!)

About Idyllwild, you have good memories, and I got a giggle over the broken bed. What WERE you doing in there?! It's still a wonderful place, no ramshackle motels anymore that I know of. Classy spot. The town has about 2500 full-time residents (and as you can guess, many more tourists year round. We'll never be Big Bear or Arrowhead (boohoo, huh!) because we're landlocked by national forest and wilderness lands, thank goodness. The arts academy draws students by audition only from all over the world. Lots to do here, even for us retired folks.

Hi roadsmith
Great looking add!

You probably know this, but here’s technical aspect of this subject. Of course this has to do with what folks have their screen resolution set to. My poor old eyes won't let me set the resolution too high or I would not be able to read or see anything. So I keep my resolution at 1024 x 768 which is only one step above 800 x 600 which I think a lot of folks are still using. I have a 22 inch monitor but if my monitor were 17 or God forbid 15, I would have to use 800 x 600. I think most people are using higher resolutions now but I have several friends and relatives that are still on 800 x 600 so we might be surprised how many folks are still scrolling with your add. Your sample audience here on this forum are, for the most part, fairly computer savvy although some don’t want to admit it. I would bet most folks on this board are using higher resolutions

On my monitor your add fit perfect at the 1024 x 768 setting but I had to scroll right when I changed it to 800 x 600

Peace,
Don

Good points here, Don, and thanks for taking the time. I don't quite know what to do about this next, and I'm sure my resolution is the lower figures you cited.

This template is the only one I'm using, of the dozen or so through Vendio, that forces me to scroll right.

And, Pat, about your earlier thread here! I too have Firefox. Do you think there's a connection there? Can you tell how ignorant I am about the inner workings of this machine?!

Roadsmith...

I couldn't tell you -- here -- what we were doing. We might get kicked off AW! (Vendio, now.)

Now, to the template.

I do not use a listing service, Vendio or SpareDollar. I prefer doing my own templates, since I had to learn them long ago before there WERE these services. What I AM suggesting is that you copy/paste your current template HTML into eBay's listing service (if you have the HTML) and run it through their system.

Perhaps your template is not available to you in HTML. That being the case, NEGLUS can probably re-do it to fit.

And...ThroughHiker makes a good point. Resolution can cause this problem for viewers.

I'm NOT computer savvy! I just learned the HTML out of necessity...

Sorry I couldn't be more help...

Pat

Thanks for the reply re the Reserve price, it was the only answer that made sense except that it didn't say "Reserve Met".

I wonder what EBay will manage to do to to the site while I am basking in the sun in Hawaii?? I may have to learn the system all over again when I return.

I still think your auction looks great!

Pat: I'm hoping when Neglus's family is through the funeral and the sadness, that she can just make the words in that header, "Roadsmith's Book Nook" smaller and the space it's in smaller, so that the auction isn't so spread wide.

Otter: I'm glad you like the way the auction looks! It's the only way I set auctions up--with the words on the left, the pictures on the right, because I believe that's the way the eye travels naturally. Who knows, though. . . .

And lucky you to be going to warmer climes! Enjoy some warmth and sunshine for all of us.

I knew of sadness and the accident. I didn't realize she was going to the funeral. My prayers are with her...

She did a beautiful job on your template! I'm sure she can make the necessary changes to make it fit for ALL viewers.

We have a lot to consider when building these templates. Each viewer has their settings set differently -- for personal needs -- and it seems each browser wants to do its own thing, too. It's a challenge! But fun!

Roadsmith,
This webpage may make it easier to understand html. I just wish they would turn the sound on it down just a tad.
