I'm about 99.99% sure these belonged to the father of an elderly friend of mine and date from WWI BUT before I list, want to make sure. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Is it one of the American Expeditionary Force pin from WW1? and don't know about second one. Maybe looking up those terms will find it. Sorry not much help.

AEF as irked confirmed is from the Johnny-come-lately Yanks who joined the good fight in the closing minutes of "The Great War" aka WWI according to my grandfather.

Pin on RIGHT looks like:

"WWI era, "Son-in-Service" pin, marked sterling, Used......55.00"

I agree with Tom, first thing I thought when I saw the pin on right is son in service. More stars, more sons in the war effort- I've seen ones with 3 stars and I wouldn't dout there eing some 4 star versions out there (imagine!). Here is an ebay search that shows several variants including a blue navy version.

The first pin has a "right" look about it for WW1 era, the style of mount on the back might help to age it. I'm not too familiar with US military items in general, but AEF is an easy one for American Expeditionary Force alright.
