I sold a $230 item last Thur. It's going to Ireland. I think they are sending cash by registered mail. Today I get a notice that the payment was sent today. Darn - it will be another 2 weeks getting here. I almost feel like doing a 2nd chance and not accepting her money when it gets here. Why does stuff like this happen when you are the brokest(not a real word unless you live in my house)?? Oh well back to the store!!!!

Just be sure not to miss the deadline for filing UPI, even if the "money is in the mail." If, and when, it arrives, you can always end it.

It does not take two weeks for mail to get here from Ireland. It takes about a week.

I think they are sending cash by registered mail.

Ladyjewels2000,

If you get a registered envelope that you suspect contains cash, open it in the presence of your postie/mail carrier to remove any doubt that it is empty. (Also you might want to check if the flap has been opened or a side has been razored.) Too many horror stories of "empty envelopes" arriving by registered mail that supposedly contained cash. Anything sent registered says "Steal Me" to underpaid postal workers.

I always tell customers that if they want to send cash then the safest way is in a plain envelope with no special marking and seal all the edges with clear tape. Wrap the currency notes (no coins) in heavy paper to hide them and place inside a small, inner envelope. Remember to include a short note with auction or purchase details and send it regular Airmail with a certificate of posting. Easy.

Registered mail shouldn't take that long.

Registered mail takes longer than regular Airmail as it needs to be secured at every step enroute. It's also subjected to closer scrutiny by Customs since it's known to contain valuables.

I got a registered letter with cash from Italy in less than 5 days wild, I figured would take over a week. I also had to sign for it at post office so you can open it right there when you get it good idea. Mine was ok, and considering it went through Italian mail a miracle.

I don't know if it's the same in the US, but in Canada we can get regular letter mail from the UK in 3 days, and send it and have it delivered in the same amount of time, and registered would easily be that quick. What you may not realize is that it may have taken their bank quite a while to get that much US cash. I have had buyers who have had to wait for it to come into their banks.

"It does not take two weeks for mail to get here from Ireland. It takes about a week"

Perhaps for those of you who are lucky to be recognized as part of the US. Sometimes I believe the USPS thinks we live at the end of the Pony Express trail here in Panama City.

Just this weeks results for mail deliver: It took over a week for my California customer's check to make it to the Florida Panhandle. A letter from my Dad in KY took 10 days to get here. A check from central Florida took 5 days. OTOH, my Priority Mail packages to SPokane WA arrived there in 48 hours. Go figure!

Aside from the postal issues, I've found that unless overseas buyers pay with PayPal, there is much less urgency in sending funds OR replying to emails than we've become accustomed to here while dealing with US customers.

Which is why I now get impatient if someone hasn't paid in 3 days. And why buyers get equally impatient if something hasn't shipped IMMEDIATELY! Works both ways, just depends on which foot wears the shoe.

Frankly, I liked it better in the old days, when you could plan your listings to end and then give five days or more for check or MO to arrive. Now you'd better be at the printing label station when payment arrives.

Glad you added that Amber - I guess US funds aren't there so you have to wait.
I guess it's just not my week - $250 charge back on paypal, $300 items sold to 0 FB bidder and no word yet and then this. I guess it's a good thing we don't depend on ebay alone to pay the bills.
