You do NOT become part of the bidding frenzy,,,,,DRIVING ,,UP the prices,,,,No one has ANY idea that YOU have ANY interest,,,it's all descretly done and only happens in the LAST 6,,,,,,,,,seconds, when YOUR price is entered....Set YOUR price as HIGH as you WISH,,,,,$30.00 for example,,,,,my LAST WUN ended at ME the HIGH buyer,,,,$15.50.... I WUN! ,,,,I WUN!!!!!

Jack: So the difference between using eSnipe and just putting in one's highest proxy bid early is--that eSnipe bids in the very last seconds only? (I'm trying to understand this.)
Does eSnipe cost anything?

Roadsmith, The difference is that all the other collectors who stalk you to see the treasures you found that they didn't can't bid against you. It also keeps the nibblers from bidding up a few cents at a time to try to find your proxy. Don't know why I find that so annoying.
Yes there is a charge but I find it more than pays for itself when I don't have to get up at 3 am to snipe an auction in England the way I once did.

Same problem here. The UK is always 12 hours behind so those auctions are always ending in the wee hours. Sniping is so much easier and stops bid stalkers and other low life from following you to bid against you on your best finds. Got some great bargains especially from dyslexic sellers or those too lazy or inexperienced to put up a decent photo.

There's a disadvantage to bidding with 6 seconds left...If someone's proxy is higher then yours, YOU LOSE!...There's no guarantee you win the item...I can snipe my own item with seconds left, can't see paying a site to do it for me...If something is in the UK, it's as they say, they'll be another one along shortly, why fret?!

If you are buying something where there will "be another one along shortly" you are right. There are some thing that if not in the true meaning "unique" are still very rare or at least hard to find. There are even somethings that are actually unique. For those things an automatic snipe is well worth the fee.
The automatic snipe also allows for some impulse control. You can set an absolutely top price you will pay and not being there at the end there is no way to override the decision.

I have been using auctionsniper.com for years now and I love it.
"I can snipe my own item with seconds left, can't see paying a site to do it for me."
this may be true, but again if some has a proxy bid hight then yours, you will still lose. The advantage is you dont have to be at your computer when the auction is ending. It doesnt cost that much, and for me its well worth it.
