Someone listed on my auction site. Ebay caught it Thank goodness. This is the "details" that is listed as the reason for not listing the auction. "Error 240: The item cannot be listed or modified.
The item cannot be listed or modified. The title and/or description may contain improper words, or the listing or seller may be in violation of eBay policy." It is a pfaltzgraff Bell plate. For goodness sakes.
I listed an auction about 3 weeks ago of the book of 13 portraits of Hitler. Ebay cancelled the auction. I thought that was the end of it. I did a live help interview. I listed from Vendio since then. I changed passwords, reinstated my charge card. What more?? I am discouraged. to say the least. I have over 2,000 100 % positive feedback. I have emailed both Ebay and Vendio. Thanks for listening. azcomebuy

eBay giveth, and eBay taketh. Sometimes my WWII items have been pulled, sometimes not. Sometimes Hitler is pulled, sometimes not. You have my sympathy.

The WWII stuff really gets my dander up. Hitler happened. It's part of history and you can't (nor should you) sweep it under the carpet. The only way to prevent such a thing from happening again, is to educate, educate, educate. If for whatever reason you find that kind of thing offensive, don't bid. It's kind of like book banning - "not on my site you don't" .

How does ebay decide what is offensive? Do they have someone searching for "Hitler" all the time? These portraits were done by his personal photographer, Hoffman. book is dated 1939. There are no guns tanks, just 13 faces of hitler? Would it have anything to do with the fact that there was another book by Hoffman up for sale at the same time? As for not being able to list through vendio. Is anyone else having that trouble. I think I have jumped through all the hoops, Still nothing.

If I remember correctly, the problem is with GERMAN laws...

eBay and (I THINK?) Yahoo agreed NOT to list NAZI items (including, I would imagine, pics of the liddle Corporal)...

Although, the POLICY is very confusing:

"eBay will review listings that are brought to its attention by its worldwide community, and will look at the entire listing to determine whether it falls within this rule.

Examples of items that will generally be removed:

Items that bear symbols of the Nazis, the SS, or the KKK, including authentic German WWII memorabilia that bear such marks

Crime scene photographs

Morgue shots

Letters and artwork from notorious murderers

Electric chairs and related capital punishment items

Examples of items that may generally be listed:

German coins and postage stamps (canceled or otherwise) from the WWII era regardless of markings

WWII memorabilia that does not bear the Nazi or SS markings

Books and movies about WWII or Nazi Germany, even if the Nazi symbol appears on the item

War documentaries or documentary photos portraying victims of war or violence

Items of historical importance associated with acts of violence against public figures"

Anyhoo, as Ralphie so pithily points out, eBay depends on snitches to report items -- you competitor probably did ya in...

So, what it sounds like to me is even if you are selling to the U.S. only, the "world" community can and does dictate what you can and cannot sell to someone in the U.S.?

"big brother" is watching. I might try the military only. Too bad History is getting rewritten.<P> I could not believe that someone could get into my vendio site and list something. Ebay caught it and closd them down fast. Ebay is still the only game in town.

Tom - ebay does not ban the sale of items just bevcause of Germany's laws. What they have done is block the ability to view some of those items from foreign sites. It's a neat little trick, you can see the listing title in your search but when you click on the auction, you get a message saying that the item that you are looking at may not be legal to be purchased in your country.

I believe that Hitler's other name was Schicklegruber (sp??). Most Hitler collectors would know that, and I wonder what would happen if you listed with the that name in the title, and Hitler in the description (or not).

Or--have you tried listing the book in Amazon collectible books?

Tom...Ebay's ban on Nazi items came as a result of France dropping the guillitine on Yahoo. It's illegal to advertise anything Nazi related in France, Austria, Italy or Germany. Yahoo had to face the prospect of paying a million bucks a day in fines, or make their site unavailable in France if they continued to allow these items to be listed. Ebay followed suit when Yahoo dropped the Nazi items.

Usually my nazi auctions take most of a week to get cancelled. I am going to try some 3 day auctions for Mein Kampf and see if the auction will close before they catch it.

The whole forbidden nazi auction thing is very silly. That's the way Europe is now.

A couple months ago I listed a rare Hitler book on feebay that sold for close to $400.00 and after the auction ended I got all sorts of questions from the high bidder about the item.

I answered most of his questions but then I finally just told him in email that why didn't he ask these questions about the item before he bid.

Then all of a sudden, a couple of weeks later, I get an email from feebay, telling me that the auction has been cancelled because of a listing violation and to not proceed. I then get another email from the high bidder saying that he was told not to proceed for basically the same reason.

I believe what had happened was that he all of sudden got buyers remorse and he turned it in himself to feebay to get out of having to pay for it. There wasn't a darn thing I could do except to block this basturd from bidding on future auctions.

I had 34 auctions to start last night. Everyone of them came back as an "error" ""Details" said the same thing baout "Error 240: The item cannot be listed or modified....//...contains improper words...//..violation of eBay policies...//"
These auctions have been run by me for almost 7 years. It is old Russian banknotes that are not forbidden. Even some of these auctions were "re-lists" that were good a week ago..
Secondly, I cannot log in to my eBay account: "Invalid ID"???

They came back about setting my Internet Explorer browser SSL 2.0 and 3.0 to "on".They were already...on. No help there and another day shot playing email tag.

Any ideas?
