Just heard about the listing of flooded bus on ebay here it is . BUS
Looks like they have plenty of bids so far. Heard it was a trial and if it sold would sell the rest of them to help the N.O. school system. Dummies put a reserve on it. DUH for a salvage.?

What a rip off. For starters it is a 1993 bus which in most states in the US would put it in the 12th year of service. 12 years of service is the limit for most states so it could not be used for public school anymore. Second, I can't even imagine how many thousands of dollars it would take to overhaul one of these fish bowl's. Third, the going price for a 12 year going out of service school bus is between $5,000 and $6,000. If anyone want's a International bus I can get you one that IS NOT FLOODED for around $5,000 that has been in a exceptionally well maintained fleet from Carroll County Maryland.
All in all, what a scam.

Yes a scam of sorts I guess but I bet their thinking is just what the auction says own a piece of Katrina history. CNN said it was a trial auction and that the money would go to the N.O. School system to help it out and if it sells then the rest of the buses will go on auction too..So I am thinking they should just list them and no reserve that way they get money and maybe the buses would be a decent price. But you know bidders they will always bid high on such things. Some people got more money than sense.

I see they added to the description today that the bus comes with a SALVAGE TITLE. Hope all the dopes on ebay that are bidding on it realize these thing's will never be on the road again and are only good for water logged parts or scrap metal. Like I said in the first post, what a scam.

It just makes me want to cry when I think of all the poor people they could have taken out of New Orleans using these very buses. The buses would have been saved and more important some lives maybe could have been saved as well.

Could a winner live in one of those buses, or rent it out on his property??? Are they saying the winner must pick up the bus himself? (I haven't looked at the auction itself yet.)

Live in it???????? Your kidding right????? In that moldy musty murky putrid infested water logged boat anchor.
Yes, you must pick it up.
I still can't get over the fact this thing is up to I think $5,700 or %5,800 last time I looked AND IT STILL HAS NOT MET RESERVE!!! God, you can buy good road worthy, inspected and ready to drive 1993 International bus's around here for under $3,500 with a DT466 engine and a AT545 trans. Must be nice to have money to throw away. I will be selling 4 or 5 school bus's this year from 1994 to 1996, all International's if anyone here is interested. And guess what, THEY RUN AND DRIVE and are in superb condition.

Hey Mike, maybe I should get one of your buses to carry all my ebay stuff in. LOL kidding but that is a good price for a running bus. Yours not the N.O. one.
I could just see it-- a school bus for going ebay looking and hauling. Wonder what kind of gas milage I would get. hahaha
I have seen some pretty neat converted buses for motorhomes travel.

Don't laugh but I do use a school bus for picking up alot of my ebay purchases
I do alot of repair work on private contractor school bus's in Maryland and got a good deal on one a couple of years ago that had had a rear end accident. I gutted the seats out, and removed almost all the side windows and filled in with sheet metal. Then removed the entire backside of the body and fabricated a lift gate that also act's as the rear door. It is a 1997 International 72 Passenger with a 466E (diesel)engine and I get about 8.5 MPG (after doing my magic on the engine). Removed the junk AT545 Allison automatic Trans and installed a 13 speed Road Ranger manual transmission. Slapped in a Detroit Locker rear axle differential assembly and a set of InstaChains and in the winter I just drive by all the stuck 4x4's on the road and laugh. Got a 20 ton Winch off of a military wrecker and mounted it on the front along with a Mad Max bumper. Needless to say, people get out of my way on the road.

Has anyone read the questions? The answers are fantastic but I loved this "question"... brilliant!!
May I humbly suggest that after this auction you sell the remaining 258 buses to the Army Corp of Engineers? Considering typical governmental buying procedures, I imagine you would make a very tidy profit, indeed. Said buses could then be installed atop a portion of the new, improved levee system in a long parade line, something akin to Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. The levee-top art installation would most certainly goose the New Orleans tourism industry back up to its earlier fabled heights, whilst refocusing international attention on the plight of your fine city by creating a big stir in the art world.

I don't think so. The government get's very good prices on their contracts for vehicles. The last time I spoke with a Atel Bus Corp. sales man he had sold a fleet of 64 new bus's to the federal government and the price was close to $12,000 less EACH than a civilian contractor would be able to obtain them for. He said they don't make much on them but they make up the difference over the coming 15-20 years in repair parts sales.
