I want to make sure before I list this card that the dog pictured is a pit bull. Looks like one to me but would like confirmation because Pitbull items seem to bring nice prices. Thanks in advance.

That is one crazy looking dog and scared looking kid.

This site is very good for finding dog breeds:

It looks like an American Pit Bull Terrier, but rarely seen with ears down like that, I think.

This looks like a GOK. God Only Knows. It may be part Pit Bull, but not purebred as the ears & jowls don't fit. Pit bulls mouth is more pointed & normally the ears stand up.

Standards in pit bulls have changed over the years according the breeders' whims as has happened in all breeds of dogs ( and cats). and since this is an old postcard, do not think the muzzle would look like today's pit bulls . The ears flopping forward is something else. The dog is a "bully" type dog however and perhaps the artist just used his/her ideas of what a pitbull should look like.

Thanks, Vintage, for the link. I found my little Dingo there. Hadn't found her on other sites.

Pit Bull? the wide jaws and shoulders suggest it, but I tend to agree with BuyHigh that this may well be an "Artist's Impression" sketch.

They are called pit bulls because originally at least in England they were put into a pit to fight bulls. Wide jaws would have been a decided advantage in killing the bull. Now that they no longer have bulls to fight, show dog's muzzles can afford to be more refined in structure.

Sure looks like a white Boxer to me. Very similar to this one I found on the web:

Not certain that boxers were common or depicted during the earlier period of the postcard. They became popular in the late 1940's and 1950's after WW2 ended. White boxers were rare then because they not intentially bred since they are disqualified from dog shows. Only fawn and brindle with partial white patches on muzzle and chest are acceptable.

I think Boston Terriers are adorable! I am still mourning my Golden retriever who died 7 years ago at age 14. My next dog might be a Boston terrier.
