I purchased a new PC - got it all hooked up and running .
I now have 3 PC and a laptop. One PC is dedicated to gaming.Laptop goes with moi to beach twice a month!

Anyway my new one is super 2 GB Memory , 300 HP-930. all my Computers are HP(I love them and have never purchased another brand) and I am on BellSouth--soon to be ATT

I read about removing junk from new PC -I want to do that but not sure what all to remove. I removed Norton -cuz , I got a 2006 Norton CD for $27.00 at Sams and it cost $39.99 online.
There is soooo much stuff already on this , I do not know where to begin --it looks like an all day job just to uninstall .
Please give me a general ideal at what needs to be ditched.
For instance I installed Microsoft Office XP Pro on the PC -do I remove the Office on the PC -it is a 90 day trial thing.
I will use this PC a great deal , pictures , dazzle , all-in-one printer , and Zebra thermal are all ready hooked up.

SOOOOO all the baggage has to go.

Any help would be appreciated and of course the comments about HP being the worst in the business is expected (grin) I have found no matter what you buy some will run-it-down.

Thanks in advance

Did the computer come with anything, other than operating software, that you want and that is not available on an indcluded disk?

If not - wipe the the whole drive and start from scratch, installing only the things you know and need.

"Anyway my new one is super 2 GB Memory "
Seems to me if you have a new PC with this much memory you should not have problems with what is installed on it as it is EXCEPT for trial programs if you don't want them dump them. You already have taken care of Norton's so You should be good to go. I have a new laptop and stopped a few things from running on it with msconfig to make sure I didn't need that stuff from HP. Make long story short some things can be stopped from starting up but you MAY need them to make your particular PC run the way it should. Mine was the new type touch pad if I wanted it to work right I had to restart the startup of that particular program that HP installed on my laptop. SO be careful about dumping anything that has HP on it or is from HP. If programs start up you will not use try the MSCONFIG option first to see if it is needed.
Start menue/ Run/ type msconfig enter then put check mark in Selective startup go to Startup tab and take check mark out of anything you don't want to startup then reboot and see if you need it. Be Careful NOT to uncheck anything needed like systray and known programs you use. You can google running program processes to find out what they are.

New PC - What Junk Needs to Be Removed

Anything that says, "AOL" should be removed asap. And after any new software that you install, you should recheck to see if AOL was reinstalled as many programs will have the sneaky AOL installer on them.

Anything Microsoft is Junk that should be removed....

I couldn't disagree more. The office programs are top notch and easy to use. I would recommend them to anyone.

Stonecold - I concur with you about Office . As I said in my first post-I installed Microsoft Office XP Pro on the PC

Microsoft XP Office Profesional goes first thing on all my PC's. I did uninstall the 2003 free trial of Office Standard- I know I will never buy it. I already have the Pro.
I would reccommend Office to everyone (JMOP)
It includes everything you need -Excel,Word, PowerPoint, and Access

Norton was aggravating me to death every time I signed on that Norton Yellow would just put itself in my face.It took forever to get it to close. It is closed now! I uninstalled it.

It would have cost $39.99 for 2006 if I decided to keep it after the FREE trial. The CD cost $27 at Sams. Same program exactly!

I may just leave everything else be, at least for now.
Thanks
