I just received an email in my OutLook mailbox and it locks up my session. How do I delete the offending email. Anyone know??

I know my outlook program is ok because I can log in with my other user name and view that mail folder with no problems.

Odd thing about the offending email, I received 2 copies. One from an aunt and one from a cousin. Read the one from the cousin with no problem. Opened the one from aunt, saw it was a repeat and then realized Outlook has "frozen". I can't delete, nada , nuttin'. Have rebooted and rebooted and rebooted. No workie. HELP!

This is just plain weird. I sent a few emails to the mailbox and now I can use that account again as long as I don't try to read or delete the email from my aunt. How do I get that darn thing out of there??? BTW, if anyone is interested, it is Outlook express, not Outlook.

As the Google eBay ad, looks like truth in advertising <g>. God knows we fend off enough viruses from all the spam and few shady sellers.

Do you have yours setup up to automatically open the email and mark it read after so many seconds of viewing it?

I used to have this problem and once I checked my settings and 'unchecked' the box to do this, it helped quite a bit.

You can try deleting several at the same time you delete this one. Just hold down the Ctrl key and click to highlight the ones you want to delete. Sometimes that works too.

Otherwise you may just have to move anything in that folder you want to keep, then: click on one email (not the one from your aunt > edit > select all > delete

That should empty the whole folder.

Thanks for the suggestions Ernie. I had tried everything except a group delete. Got excited about the prospect of deleting a group, but it didn't work

Those were all VERY good suggestions, just wish one of them had worked.

Even moved emails I wanted to keep to a new folder but then found I could not do a "select all" from edit.

Oh well. Guess my aunt will be forever on my mind this morning.

Just out of curiosity, did you run a virus scan on the message?

You may want to try this: Download Mozilla Thunderbird, which will if I'm not mistaken, import your OE messages and see if you can delete from there. Then you can go back to OE if you like. Actually, this might be a good time to dump OE (but that's just a personal quirk since I really dislike both IE and OE).

Found it!

Supplying the fix for future reference.

Moved all the messages I wanted to save to a new Outlook folder and then...

Went to this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{69FC54FF-963C-4F22-AEA3-F4AEC387A26A}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

** numbers between brackets{} are the identiy of my offending mailbox. If you try to do this your ID numbers will be different ***

Found the folder named "inbox" renamed it to "inbox1".

Made a copy of an existing folder. In this instance it was one I had created called "recipes". Renamed "recipes" to "inbox". Checked my Outlook and it is working fine. All my recipes are now showing in my Inbox

Deleted the old renamed "inbox1" and moved my recipes back to a new folder I created.

FINALLY!!!

Guess I just needed some sleep to get the ole brain working again.
