I'm familiar with the lightweight silver baby rattles, but have never seen anything like this before. Seems to be made out of brass or bronze, with metal ball inside the end pieces. Quite heavy. Over 6 inches in length. Any ideas what it is?

If the baby dropped it on it's head, could cause a concussion.
If you tell them Benjamin Franklin said it first, they'll believe you

According to Ralphie:
These are the workout barbells of the "Famous Fighting Ferrets of Fou-Long," made famous (or, as some would say, INFAMOUS) in the Bruce Lee flick: "Rat Tails of Fury"...

May be an old Salvation army bell KIdding of course but I seem to have seen one before but can't remember what they were for.

Sure looks like sleigh bells, so perhaps a musical instruments type item? As in those bell ringing choirs. Too heavy for a teething baby I would think.
