The original owner's name should be on it. Check with him, he'll probably know.

I'd say bronze - can you scratch it somewhere that won't be seen and see what color is under?

It's the same color. It doesn't have iron in it. a very strong magnet was not "attracted" to it

I would think bronze. If it was brass I would think it would be heavily corroded and discolored.

Now, I hate to ask but where did you get this? If it is a grave marker it is more then likely stollen. If you bought it from someone you more than likely received stollen goods. If I were you I would contact the local American Legion and see about returning it and reporting who you got it from. Just my two cents.

Mike, it doesn't look like it was ever used. It still has an old string hanger in the back. Maybe it was used for display????

Seems to me eBay has some rules on selling grave markers. The OP can easily check on prohibited items; I vaguely recall having a similar listing for an Odd Fellows marker pulled.

Otherwise, I believe these markers were either cast aluminum (more recently) or bronze.

I do believe that it is against Ebay rules to sell this marker. My local auction does not allow them to be sold as they say they had to stolen from a grave. You should contact Ebay customer support before listing.

It's a headstone ornament although depending on the size of that piece on the back it could be a gravestone flag holder. Should not be illegal to sell.

The ban is on items stolen from Historical graves as well as new burial plots and grave markers.

Nothing that would even imply it would apply to an ornament.

Ditto what Mike said. Call your local American Legion and see what they suggest.
