Are you talking about a Vendio invoice or ebay? An ebay invoice can only be in the amount of s/h or less.

If I put nothing at all it adds the amount.
Ebay invoice - so I can only discount the shipping not the items themselves?

Right - only the s/h (I imagine so ebay still gets its full FVF). THe way I handle my discount is in the notes on the invoice:
Thanks for your purchase! It is a pleasure doing business with you. You will receive a discount of $2.55 on your order. If paying by mail, please deduct this amount from the total shown above. If paying through PayPal, please pay the full amount shown and I will refund when I process your payment. I appreciate your business!

Are you clicking the "recalculate" link?
When I click "recalculate" the discount disappears completely but if I enter the discount and then go straight to "preview invoice before sending" the discount is there.
Also, I have noticed that if I simply replace the front zero in the 0.00 that is already in the box, it won't work either. I have to erase all three zeroes and then enter the discount, even if the discount contains two zeroes.

That's true (about having to enter discount after recalculate) but the discount cannot be MORE that the shipping and handling amount.
