"The rumour du jour is that Microsoft is in talks with eBay about a possible takeover. The news came just after eBay agreed a wide-ranging partnership deal with Yahoo!
The New York Post quoted "multiple sources" that Microsoft is considering buying eBay and merging it with MSN, though the paper said talks had "cooled somewhat" as execs considered anti-trust issues."

They were talking about it on one of the Fox financial shows this weekend but the thought was that either Microsoft OR Yahoo would buy them.

Wow! If you think Ebay's glitches are a pain in the butt now, just wait till Microsoft gets their hands on the site. Within one week of the deal closing, MicroBay will issue it's first security patch. The following week, they will announce Service Pack #1, which will be a 120 mb download.

Funny, but a good thing all the same. At least Microsoft acknowledges problems and does offer fixes. With Ebay, good luck.

That's so true Stone. At least Microsoft fix's problems as they pop up. Ebay just makes thing's worse. I myself have not had a problem with Microsoft software in years. I love their operating system and wouldn't change if you paid me. Just my 2 cents.

At the rate companies are merging, I predict in 10 years there will only be one company out there. I don't know what it will be called though. I used to like it better when we had choices.

Back in the early 1970 or there abouts. They said the world would be owned by 200 major companies by the year 2000. They weren't all that far out. It will be interesting to see who owns the world in the next 10 to 20 yrs.

Microsloth wants to head off Google before they become even larger and more profitable, and prevent any further tie-ups between eBay and MS. It would be a marriage made in hell for customers - worse security, higher fees, and everything requires Vista (chuckle)...

eBay and Yahoo just entered into a MAJOR advertising deal.
How that will affect Microsoft or Google (i.e. the 2 *other* search engines), you can only guess.

The Motley Fool had a nice write up about this today. They gave several reasons why they don't think it will come to pass. Part of it is a large Corporate chess game involving AOL, Ebay, Yahoo, Google and Microsoft. The main reason is the anti-trust implications. Msoft is a major target for the justice department, and Ebay has been doing a tightrope act for the last few years to stay under their radar. Worse yet, is Europe. The temporary charade known as the EU absolutely despises Microsoft and is constantly harassing them with antitrust and monopoly suits. There is no way Ebay would want to be seen in the same room with anyone from Microsoft in Europe. They would become a target themselves, and there is nothing good that could ever come from it for an international seller.
