In the piles of vinyl records I now have that I am trying to sell, I found a small booklet that contains a 45 rpm record of the Vanguard 1 satellite. It tells how RCA recorded the sounds and give information in the booklet and on one side of the record. The other side is a recording of the sounds heard while the satellite was orbiting that RCA picked up. I see nothing like this on ebay. Any suggestions? By the way, the record is in mint condition and the booklet shows slight wear
The vanguard satellite was launched in 1958. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The folks that owned these records had an unusual collection.

That's quite a find. Selecting a category could be a challenge. It's definitely historical memorabilia, but you also want to remember that the early space program was run by the military, so that category in collectables might also be appropriate. I have a feeling you will wind up listing this in more than one category.

Someone here knows the name of a website that lists the prices of records, which might have that one listed.

I tried that site: popsike.com. It didn't list anything on this recording. I have found nothing at all

A similar record can be found here http://members.aol.com/djadamson9/sputnik.html
It's from Sputnik and not for sale.

Pixiemom, That IS the record I have! I guess it's very very rare. I wonder if this is really an ebay item? Where is the best place to try to sell it?

why don't you email the guy that has the record and ask him?

Really interesting.
I would do what glassgrl said and email him. He has one but may know another site that you can offer your's for sale? Maybe it is an ebay item if you start it at the right price.

If it's that rare, I suppose you could list it with a high reserve.

I've sold several early-space-program items in the Collectibles/Historical/Space program (I think that's what they call it) sub-category, even books by early astronauts. But I haven't had something that was that rare.

marcn: That's a great site! First place where I found my original cast LP of Bells Are Ringing--one, asking $30. Thanks for posting.

I once had a totally dissimilar item that was hidden in the back of an album I bought at auction. I thought it might be valuable to a small audience and went to Yahoo! and searched for a group that might have a fetish for the item. Sure enough, I found one - joined, posted pics - wrote an introductory post describing my ignorance and asking fellow members if they could help me. I got a lot of good info - key words I could use in my title and description (the group got my pix for their archives). I still had no real feel for value - I listed in two categories with gallery and subtitle for a slightly above-what-I dared-hoped for price. It was sniped at the last moment for opening bid. I'm convinced the buyer was a member of the Yahoo SIG who was on the look-out for the item. Targeted publicity always helps! I agree that collectibles-historic memoralbia-space program is the best place to list. Edited to add: I think that this appeals more to space collectors than to vinyl record collectors
