A Japanese guy covered in mud I guess.

Yes, they're Chinese. aka mud man, mud men medmen, etc.

mudman

Try... Collectibles > Cultures, Ethnicities > Asian (1900-Now) > Chinese > Figures, Sculpture

The best ones seem to be the taller ones with the crude holes in the bottom (older?)

Good luck, hope you find some good ones to bring home and list.

Mudmen. That reminds me of an estate sale I went to last year. I knew about them because I had just researched my friend's collection prior to the sale. Here I am, I have 2 mudmen for 50 cents. So excited. I put them in my car. Long story short, I broke one of the "Muddies" arms off. I am still sad about that.

Thanks for the headsup. This is by invitation on Thursday. Only well known buyers are invited. The public can go on Fri, Sat & Sunday.According to the card there are 3 banquet tables mud men & small decor. Also SE Alaska native artifacts, SW Native Indian artifacts. I may spend a fortune before the day is done.

I just sold three of these recently and listed them under Asian Antiques and they did very well.

One had a leg missing but the collectors of this very crudely made sculptures don't seem to mind a bit of damage.
