I bought some merchandise online on the 13th of this month and paid with my PayPal debit card. Was looking at my account today and see the $1,382 amount was refunded to my account and shows that the original transaction as expired where it usually either has pending or completed listed. What's the scoop. They didn't want my money? I have the merchandise, it showed up a couple of day's later via UPS. Somehow I don't think they planned on sending it to me for free or is this my lucky day (doubtful). What will they do, rebill the card? Just curious as this has never happened before.

No, I have a verified Business account. I make around 40-50 purchases per month with the PP debit card and this is the first time it has ever happened. I know sometimes they show pending in PayPal for quite a few day's. It looks like this one just expired. Whatever expired means.

I've had this happen many times when I purchase regularly from one of our vendors. What has happened is they have not "batched out" or completed the transaction before PayPal allowed it to expire. It happens when someone does not remember to close out at the end of the day or they do it once a week or so.
Give it another day or 2 then check with your supplier to be sure they complete the transaction. I think you'll find they just didn't complete their end of the credit card transaction, that's all.
I find it annoying, because you really can't rely on what balance is showing as your "true" balance available to you. I also hate when I make a purchase and they hit you with a $1.00 fee that they allow to expire - just checking to ensure your account is valid and that a larger transaction will go through. What you end up with is a lot of "ins" and "outs" that could make things a bit complicated.

Thanks for the explenation Wayne. I kind of figured it was something like that. I'll just give it a few more day's and then contact the seller.

There are 1 or 2 other vendors I use that also cause this snafu...
From what little Ralphie was able to gather, if the merchant doesn't not do something within a given period of time, PP cancels the payment & returns the moola to your account...for a short period, until the merchant wakes up & re-sends the charge!
ONLY HAPPENS with a very few specific merchants!
ANYHOO, I've learned NOT to use my PP DEBIT card to pay my CABLE BILL...
99.99999% of the time, the PP DEBIT CARD works FINE...BUT, it can be quirky now & then...

tom is correct, I had the very same thing happen about 2 months ago. It just sat there & was not picked up so PP cancelled the transaction. I called the company & they had a new email address, that worked fine.

Happened to me also and they refunded the money into my account cause they didn't send it in in the I think 7-10 day period then 3 weeks later it was sent and taken out then. Fact I got call from Paypal to check and see if it was for real and my signature.. Also I hate the take out for gas at a station that does the dollar thing then takes out the real amount later like almost 10 days. I forget by then. I like the real amount taken right then.

Not sure what PP is playing at (is anyone?) but I can tell you that when using a debit or credit card the sales amount is often rung through first as a "pending" hold to check the card can handle the amount, then later processed as a "charge".
Self-service gas stations in the US will often do a large "pending" hold, followed minutes later by the actual "charge" amount, but the "pending" amount doesn't disappear for several days to a week depending on the gas company.

Agit - it is not PayPal that takes the charge from pending to completed - it is the owner of the merchant account.
