Without my going back and looking and trying to find the post, wasn't there something about another eBay site that permits you to post a longer feedback?

Be careful. This (leaving longer feedbacks through another eBay site) is now considered circumnavigation or abuse of the feedback system or some such thing and, if reported, all such comments will be removed and you may be sanctioned in some way.

Nah! Don't even bother!

Ralphie tried it, and, you know what? A half an hour later, he wanted MORE characters!

They have 125 characters? I'll have to keep that in mind. Might come in handy one day. I must have missed the original post that had that in it.

I was wrong. They refer to it as "undermining the integrity of the system" and though sanctions are not always mentioned, I do know someone who was suspended for leaving more than one neg this way. (Albeit suspended briefly.)

Here's the best thread and quote I could find without looking too hard. (It's too hot, lol.)

"The eBay system provides 80 characters to leave feedback (except for Taiwan and another double-byte site). Therefore, it is expected that when trading with a person on a site that only permits 80 characters, both individuals would be held to the same standard. Using the Taiwan site to leave 125 character comments undermines the integrity of the system.

If you use the Taiwan site to leave a glowing positive, the member that received the positive would likely not report it as a violation. If, on the other hand, you left a scathing negative that is 45 characters longer than they could leave in retaliation , they likely would report it.

The reason for the difference in the capabilities between the sites is when we migrated Taiwan they had the capability, before migration, to leave very long comments – much longer than 125 characters.

Because of this we chose not to limit Taiwan to 80 characters.

We will evaluate eliminating the difference, but until then, comments left via the Taiwan site will be removed if the above criteria are met.

Thanks.

Sorry, Zippy, but that link to the forum wouldn't work anyway.

If you want to use the Taiwan site for feedback, use it soon. You might remember there was a notice that eBay and another company have merged operations in Taiwan and that might affect the ability to leave feedback - or we'll have to come up with another link to use, won't we?

Hmmm, Zipperhead. Okay. I don't mind being called 'Zipperhead' as long as you don't mind being called 'Dickhead.'

You don't mind, do you? I can't imagine why you would.

Or how about 'Butthead?'

I think that sounds a bit friendlier. Don't you?

Play nice now boy's and girls. Zippy, I don't think any intentional harm was ment with Toms original (now missing) post. He was afterall trying to help. And you may want to edit out your profane post as this is a family oriented board.

Kind of what I was thinking. I went to the link and just stared at the strange characters for a second and thought oh well.

You really do have to be familiar with where the buttons are for each action. And, once you post it, it gives you a confirmation screen and you have to acknowledge the post before it becomes live. I guess it keeps you from making a mistake - but of the few I've seen use it there - it is helpful to have another Web browser open with an example of that page in English and follow the example when you post on the TW site.

All this for an extra 45 characters or so, huh?

Oh well.

Mike, I appreciate your intentions but I have no desire to edit or remove my posts.

I believe it is cowardly to remove a post after the fact and I believe it is doubly cowardly to remove a post when the person you posted to recognizes said post as flat-out nasty for no known reason and responds in kind.

I've never been a coward and frankly, cowards (especially those disguised as grown men) disgust me.

I only edit when I make a mistake.

The fact that Tom aka Butthead felt the need to completely REMOVE his insulting post after I recognized it as such says it all.

So, I'm sorry, but you'll just have to cover your kid's eyes when they read this thread.

(Yes, joking. About the kids. Not the disgust.)

That tired picture, again?

Lord, what a bore.

So, birgittaw, why do you need more than 80 characters?

Fluff:

Why more than 80 characters? 'Cause on occasion you need more of an explanation in response to someone's feedback. Although in this case, I suppose "dumb newbie" would have worked too and fit in there 11 times for 80 characters. (Or substitute expletive of your choice for newbie) Besides, I tend to be wordy.
