Got a message that "adobe" wanted me to download a critical update:
"The Adobe® Reader® 7.0.8 Update will update Adobe Reader 7.0.7. This update provides bug fixes and improved security. Adobe recommends all Adobe Reader users install this update."
I never have gotten an Adobe update message before! Is this legit? I cancelled the download (I seem to remember updating ADobe on certain sites when they said my version was out of date but never RECEIVED updates!)

I've been getting the same update notice for about a month now. I have not updated simply because I am always in the middle of something else when it pops up. I get the pop-up when trying view certain web pages. I think it is valid.

Well, you could always go to Adobe's web site, download the latest version from there (the release notes say what your pop up message indicates) and then see if it happens again the next time you use Adobe.
I have also gotten them, but am also in the middle of something else when it happens! So maybe I'll even take my own advice...

I thought I was the only one irritated by these messages! My husband says they're legit; he's already downloaded them on his computer. It's just that the message comes up when I'm first starting up and eager to get into other sites first. However, this morning I didn't delete the message, and it's still in my bottom toolbar or whatever you call it, so when I'm done with my business here I'll pull it up and update.
If the Adobe people (for whom my son-in-law works) were to ask my advice, I'd tell them not to pop up the message when first turning on the computer. That's where it's really annoying.

That's strange. I have never had a popup from Adobe before. The only time I find out about updates is if I am online and launch Adobe. It apparently then checks for updates and then has a popup within Adobe that informs me of the updates. Guess I should just count myself lucky.

They are legite, only problem is that they also install crap on your computer that you couldn't possibly want in our life time. I have downloaded them and they do update, but then I have to delete a lot of garbage. Almost as bad as AOL.

With Adobe products you can switch off automatic updates. Go to Preferences and you'll find it, then simply toggle the tick off.
You can always go to the Adobe website once in a while to manually download any critical or recommended updates.
