It looks like ebay isn't going to do much to help us market our store items.
Adding a search box to your custom listing text (so it appears in each of your Vendio listings) is easy.
Here is the HTML for a Search Box - You will have to add your STORE NUMBER where the Asterix are (Go to your store and try to search something there, then look up at the URL address bar - there is a bunch of gobbetly gook up there but you can also find your store number (I have bolded mine in the URL below so you can tell about where yours will be located
http://search.stores.ebay.com/Moody-Mommys-Marvelous-Postcards_new-york_W0QQfciZ0QQfclZ4QQfsnZMoodyQ20MommyQ27sQ20MarvelousQ20PostcardsQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftsZ2QQsaselZ18559912QQsofpZ0
You will have to add the NAME of your store between the "$$" in the HTML
You will also have to put your own words where the "@@@"signs are:
SEARCH BOX HTML
<!-- Start search box --></b><table bgcolor="#ffffcc" border="5" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" width="295"><tbody><tr><td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top"> <form name="search" method="get" action="http://search.stores.ebay.com/search/search.dll"><font style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;" size="4"> Search <b>@@TYPE WHATEVER YOU WANT HERE _ PROBABLY NAME OF YOUR STORE AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT IN THE BOX@@</b></font> <br><input name="MfcISAPICommand" value="GetResult" type="hidden">
<input name="sid" value="**NUMBER OF YOUR EBAY STORE**" type="hidden">
<input name="store" value="$$NAME OF YOUR EBAY STORE$$" type="hidden">
<input name="colorid" value="6" type="hidden">
<input name="fp" value="0" type="hidden"><input name="query" maxlength="35" size="20" type="text"> <input value="Search" type="submit"><br><input name="srchdesc" value="y" checked="checked" type="checkbox"><font size="2">
Search titles <b>and</b> descriptions</font></form></td>
</tr>
</tbody></table>
<!-- End search box --></font></font></font></a></font></font></font></b></font></font></b></font></b></font></b></font></font></font></center></center></center></center></center></div>
This will get you a yellow search box - you can change the color by modifying the part that says: "bgcolor="#ffffcc"". You can get virtually any background color code you want by using this hexcolor chart: http://www.december.com/html/spec/colorhues.html

Hi Neglus,
Wouldn't the RSS feed help in marketing also? I am trying to crasp that concept to help increase my sales as they are in the toilet at the moment. is the search box is part of the RSS feed program? I have to admit that I am computer challanged as I have to have my son helped me.

Yes the RSS feed is supposed to help a lot - but I haven't gotten that one done yet.
I bookmarked this guide that's supposed to be a good one for putting the RSS feed in your listings, store etc.

Neglus:
Ralphie has a STUPID question, because he is a D-O-G:
"What is a SEARCH BOX for?"

Just another store link basically - in case buyers miss the others. They could do the same search from the search box in the store navigation, but just in case they don't know that, I put a search box in my listings. Certainly not necessary but since it's likely stores will not return to general search ANYTHING I can do to get buyers to look at items in my store helps. I think they get overwhelmed when looking at a store with SO MANY items, I think I have to make it as simple as possible for them.

Thanks Neglus - this is great. I'll let you know if I can get it to work but I think I can.
I even tried to buy a post card from you but you didn't have it. If you run across a card of Cedar Key FL. let me know and I'll buy it. We spent our Honeymoon there.

It worked and looks great.
One question - do I need the @@ or is that just for effect?
I think buyers will be more inclined to search for an item than just click a link to your store. Hey it worked for me on neglus' store. It never occurred to me that I wanted a Cedar Key postcard until now.

The @@ was just to help you find the spot in the HTML - you don't need it.
I will keep an eye out for a Cedar Key PC for you.
If you use Vendio, you can add the box to your Custom Listing Text and not have to worry about setting it up again

You're welcome.
One tip I learned about Vendio - I act like I am going to launch a new listing (use whatever category etc.) and then I use the description box (WSWYG) to play around with my Custom Listing Text until I get placement and font and everything like I want it and then copy the html and paste in the "Custom Listing Text" in my account. I then save the pretend listing (Title it "Custom Listing Text" or whatever and save it - whenever I want to make a change I can find it in my "pending listings" and play around with it some more.

That RSS TUTORIAL is EXCELLENT!
Took me&Ralphie about 5 minutes to set up everything -- the instructions are really easy -- even a (shush!)D-O-G can DO IT!
Now...if I only knew what RSS, etc was for???

Hi Tom & Ralphie,
Well, I told you that I am computer challanged. I did try to download a free RSS reader for Firefox but was not successful. I will try again to download a different one as I tried with Pluck and didn't get anywhere.

Neglus - is there a way to shorten the the box? I love it but now you have to scroll to see the whole page and I don't want that.
Thanks

Lady - I use Vendio to edit my text and generate the HTML.
Do you use Vendio? Pretend you are going to launch a listing - doesn't matter what because you are going to delete it when you are done playing with the search box- you don't have to fill anything in after the category to get the listing page. Paste the html for the search box in the description part of the listing and click to show the non-html version (WYSWYG)- you can change the font etc until you get the box the way you want it and then copy the html and use that. If you don't have a practice board or a text editor you can email your html and I'll play with it (tell me if you meant "Shorter" heightwise or "shorter" width-wise. Email is Moodymommy at aol

Yes I use Vendio so I will see how it goes. I think I can do it that way - didn't think about that before.
Thanks for the offer and I will email you if I have a problem - that's very sweet of you.

Neglus...Thank you, thank you, thank you! It looks great and works like a charm! One added note...if anyone wants to center the box (currently it's defaulted to the far left) add $$<P align=center>$$ at the very beginning of the HTML and that should do the trick. You don't need the dollar signs, only the stuff between them! Cheers!
