Tempted to imitate the dog who is sprawled out across the cool tile floor. But instead I am out in the garage sorting yard sale from ebay from stuff to be moved. YUCK!

Just working away here. It's 11:20 pm and it's just a bit dusky outside. It will be dark in a half hour or so. It's funny we had company come in last week from New Zealand. We didn't get to bed till about 2am talking and such. He asked for a 9am wake-up call. He said he was up and dressed at 4:30 because he thought we had let him oversleep. Then he realized it was 4:30 am....HA!

Back to the fixing. Looks like a long night or morning. then off to work I go ..

I was at Brimfield all ....ALL last week. It was to say the very best... VERY slow. Because its a summer show and they are notoriously slow, I went in with nominal expectations. Slice my expectations in half and that was the "show". The crowds were way down and those that were there were EXTREMELY careful about what they bought and what they paid. I am a buy it and sell it gal, no museum in my booth. Fast nickel slow dime has always been my business motto... Between the gas in the Boston area being $3.18 a gallon and the heat.... then you had the winter oil pre buys that we all got last week. That combined with the heat and the middle east exploding ....you had a miserable time for a lot of dealers. I have company from Denver in this week so will let my store do its will. Next week back to work for real.Try to stay cool everyone.

Trying to beat the heat. Only about 97 here in Canada which is not high compared with some of you, but very high humidity. Trying to get some enthusiam to list, but so few hit and bids, it's hard to keep up my interest.

On vacation with kids. Bonding, dontchaknow.
Yesterday all day at OUTSIDE auction in 97 degrees with 94% humidity. That's the south for you, but talked to friend in PA and it was 98 degrees at her house.
Running in the field all afternoon, but found fun things (not to say good judgment was not affected by brain meltdown!). Between two gallons of ice water, and big floppy hat, partnered with two pieces of bounce dryer sheets on my sun glasses -- it DID keep those pesky knats at bay, thanks for that suggestion! -- not uncomfortable.
Glad I didn't go to Brimfield; my dealer friends reported same slow sales as BJ, but they bought well. So? So comes a time when buying your way out can mean buying your way out of business.
Since it's dog days, a trip to the beach sounds delightful after checking to see what kind of roadkill I can list.

At home, listing & thinking about my vacation in the Pocono Mts coming up in August.
It is so hot here in eastern PA, went out this AM to fill my bird feeders & birdbath & couldn't wait to get back inside. How did we ever live before AC.
Did you know that Blue Jays, Woodpeckers & many other birds love dried cat food. I called the Philadelphia Zoo to check this out to see if it was OK & was told they feed all their birds dried cat food along with a variety of other seeds.

McJane: I did not know that about cat food and birds! I'll give it a try. On our back porch we have an old metal cooler chest. In it I keep regular bird seed for the little guys, sunflower seeds, and peanuts. Out of everything but peanuts right now but too lazy to go 30 miles down into the heat. Errands will be done when it's a bit cooler!

I have my bird feeders out front near a window by the front door so the kitties can see them eat. My outside cat gets his food right under them ...the blue jays dive in and grab the dry cat food when hes not laying on the step. I think they like it better than him

roadsmith, didn't know it either, found out by accident. Everynight I toss dried catfood out for Raccoons, about 10 of them show up everynight on my deck. One is tame enough to take cookies out of my hand. One night they didn't eat it all & the next morning I noticed a lot of woodpeckers & bluejays on my deck & saw they were after the cat food.
I called the zoo to see if it was OK & it was sure was. They eat so much I have to go out & add more three, four times a day. I put it on the deck railing.

mcjane - You might be supprised how many little critters you can draw in with cat and dog food. I feed my skunks and red fox's dog food all the time. Bellow are some pics I took last week of some of them. I have at times had as many as 6 skunks and 3 fox's out in front of my house at one time at night. Skunks know better than to screw with the fox and the fox's know better than to screw with the skunks. The skunks have gotten so accustomed to me that I can actually go out on the front porch and feed two of them dog food out of my hand. I have even named all the skunks. Powder Puff, the almost all white one has been coming for close to 4 years now and is one of the ones I can hand feed.
Can't ask for better pets. Throw out some food every evening and there they are.

IN the late 60s, we learned about cat food and raccoons! We were at our cabin with our two cats, kitten Percy and mommy Portia. Portia disappeared for a few days, and Percy always slept under the covers by our feet, outdoors on a porch. Middle of the night, we heard cat food crunching and thought aha, Portia's finally back. We reared up in our sleeping bag, shined a flashlight, and it was a racoon eating the cat food.
Percy too thought his mommy had returned, and he crept up to our pillows. When he saw the raccoon in the flashlight beam, all the black hair on his body stood straight up, and he sloooooowly backed all the way down to our feet again.
Portia came limping back finally, bit in the leg by a rattler. Had to take her 30 miles down the mountains to the nearest vet, and she survived.

mike,
That's wonderful, aren't they beautiful. What I wouldn't give to have all those skunks & fox around. You are so lucky.
Looks like you took those pictures outside, if I went outside my coons would probably run.
I have to take my pictures through the window.
Where do you live. I have a little more than an acre, all trees, but am a minute from a little strip mall & 5 miles from a large mall. Like living in the middle of nowhere, but not really. It's an isolated block with so many trees you can't see another house.
Perfect for me because it seems isolated, but It's not at all. And there are many deer & other wild life. I love it.
I do have one fox that comes around & at first he barks & then has this wierd cry, can't even explain it, very eerie. Used to scare me until I found out it was a fox. Do your foxes have a kind of shreeking sound. I have to sit very quietly if he comes on the deck, he's a very nervous guy & would probably never come back if he saw me. LOL
I also have one opossum & of course many raccoons including two families of babies.
They all like to get in the bird feeder.
The second picture is the only raelly friendly one & he is standing outside my storm door waiting for his cookie. I would like to pet him, but don't dare, he probably would bite me.
Can you approach or touch any of your "pets"

Im out in the middle of nowhere in Fairfield, PA and close to Gettysburg setting on 100 acre's and surronded by fields and woods. Got more wildlife than I know what to do with.
Fox's do make some strange calls, as do skunks and deer. I have a doe that gave birth to 2 fawn's this year and she is the most vocal doe I have ever encountered.
I can pet Powder Puff but I have been feeding him since he was just a little guy. From what I hear, skunks actually are the best pet's there are. If you raise them from babies they make great house pets. Very loyal and friendly, you just need to get them deglanded to avoid the skunk smell.
It's alway's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to wild animals though so I wouldn't suggest petting your coon. Opossum's don't stand a chance around me and they quickly get a bullet between the eye's. They can be very nasty animals and it's best to keep your distance from them.
I do have a friend who lives up in the mountains and has a coon for a pet. I think he as had her for close to 5 years now. He got her as a baby when he found her mother dead and she was the only baby still alive. Has turned out to be a great pet for him.

I have skunks and coons come around all the time o eat the cat and dog food for our outdoor cat/ now cats again mother and 3 kittens showed up. Our dog Sky eats outside and inside so there is always food out. The birds love it when I throw out cat and dog food but the cats like the birds so I don't get may birds anymore they have learned that the outdoor cats are staling them. Found big pile of feathers yesterday in yard. Since removing that huge tree the prettiest birds red and Blue jays and blue birds aren't around as much. Some in the back pecan trees but sure miss seeing all the birds since cutting down that tree and the stalking cats came around. I am beginning to believe that we must have an invisible only cat seeing sign out that says all cats welcome. OH well, can't stand to see a hungry animal suffering out there.
I live on edge of town on a dead end short street that is surrounded by pasture behind both sides to the street. If I you out back all I see is pasture mesquite trees and a creek so the wild life is pretty good. We have some coyotes out there but thank goodness they have not tried to invade into the houses area but you can hear them.

Funny I mentioned the doe and 2 fawn's earlier. I sat down to eat dinner and looked out the back window and what did I see.
Looks like they came out to play in the rain. They were running back and forth chasing each other. Just having a grand old time. That's the best pic I could get through the heavy rain.

Nope, not a cat. It's a old wives tale that skunks have a white stripe down their back. I have some that only have white eye brows (I call him Spock), some that are almost all white, some that are solid black and everywhere in between.
Got a little over a inch of rain this evening here in Fairfield, PA and expect to get alot more by the weekend with the tropical storm that should turn into a huricane soon here on the east coast.

Mike...If you could send an inch or two of rain from that hurricane out here to california and douse these monstrous fires we have and help fireproof our forests for a month or so, I'd be willing to send you 10 never used, world famous, MIB California earthquakes. Your choice of richter scale ratings. 1.0 (to have a little fun with the owner of the china shop) to an 8.5 (to get even with a nasty NPB or the SOB that wrote you a rubber check and never made it good). To sweeten the deal, I'll throw in a couple dozen gophers to add to your collection.

WOW, how can I pass up on that. I can bottle up some rain for you and ship it to you. Just wondering how your going to ship my earthquakes.
