well ... that was at least a few months ago, and i thought i would let you all know how that panned out.
my pre-"ebay" selling account ID (created when ebay was called auctionwatch.com) had over 7,500 feedback rating ... i wrote to bill cob and asked him for "consent" to sell my business, including the ebay feedback, (as mentioned in their terms in the user agreement) ... (i told them i even traded a pez dispenser to Ms. Pam, Pierre's then 'girlfriend') ... they said, as long as i sell my remaining inventory with it (which wasn't much, but was certainly something) ... (they also said if the biz has any real estate, which it did not, i would have to list it under real estate) ... was selling business along w/ its domain name (which pointed directly to the ebay listings), and its ebay account ...
... listed it as a 10-day auction ... on the seventh day, bidding was up to 2,500 or so, with more than 100 "watchers" ....
one certain fella from the left coast had been emailing me wanting the seller account badly ... but he insisted he would want to fly to ohio to pay me personally, and sit w/ his laptop to change over the information ....
on this '7th day', ebay pulled the auction ... (they cited another part of the user agreement saying it would 'artificially' boost the number of feedback to a 'new seller' (or something like that) ... i protested saying "you TOLD me i could do this!!" ... they wrote back, basically saying they 'changed their mind' ....
the left coast guy, had my phone number ... he called and begged me to buy the ebay seller name and domain name ... i told him, "ebay won't let me transfer the ebay ID ... they changed their mind" ..... he said he had friends that did it often, only "off ebay" .... so, he insisted he wanted to buy my seller account "off ebay" and wanted to fly to ohio and give us 3,500 cash .... i said, "i have the feeling ebay is watching my account now, and if you bought this from us, and they see the change of ownership, they might NARU it" .... he still insisted "no, that won't happen" ...... so i said, if you come here and give us 3,500$ and ebay naru's that account, i cannot have you come back crying to me about ....he said, "ok" he was not worried about that happening at all .... ... well, the young dude flew to akron/canton airport, counted out 3,500 cash to my husband, while we sat there w his laptop, and he changed the info over to his 'cousin' for the domain name and the ebay account ... ... (whatEVER) ...
he hopped back on a jet and was gone ... about 6 days later, he called me ... i said 'how you doin'?' .... he said, "fine ... well, actually not so fine" ... he said, "ebay naru'ed my account" .... i (wanted to say, "sux to be you" lol) ... but i said, "sorrrry, you know there's nothing i can do about that, but i warned you i thought they might be spot checking the account" ... he said "i know ... but i have a call into them, begging them to reconsider, etc etc ....
I haven't heard from him since, AND the acct. is still naru ... lol ...
just thought i'd let y'all know, cuz i know some of you said, at the time, that you have some cool ebay ID names up your sleeve that you hoped to "retire on" ...
se la vie ... (sp?)

I would be willing to bet that the account wasn't NARU because of the sale, but what this guy started listing to sell with it. A transfer to another person is as easy as inserting their credit card info in place of yours, and changing the name and address, then giving them your password. Ebay can't possible keep track of the changes manually so it would only make sense this guy was posting illegal items or was suspended from other id's while doing fraudulant deals and now was using your old ID to do the same. Just in his case, the persons who he screwed over in the first place were watching for the same garbage to come up again.

Stone, no; i was watching the ebay ID name and nothing had been listed at all yet with it.
Fluffy, yes, i cited to bill cobb's office in my original inquiry, the jay/marie 'auction' ... and you're right, what IF someone had 'bought' their business. i suppose they had more "inventory" to hand over than i did. ...

saga continued to its end.
hmmm... here 'tis... four months after the young fella flew from CA to OH, paid big cash for the account, changed the personal info on it, on his laptop, flew home, got naru'd about 7 days or so later.
i had had other selling accounts on ebay, that i used for many years, and this summer, to list different genre of items we have. ... but this week, ebay whacked every one of them "associated with" that May naru'ed acct. including our son's cuz he still lives at this address.

Money is the root of all evil. lol ... and i wanted the money. .... and at the time, i was extremely peeohh'ed that i walked the ebay walk, told them exactly what I wanted to do, and got their permission.
The real chump was the guy that begged to give us that much money.

I don't think Ebay was ever called auctionwatch, but Vendio was, wasn't it?

My favorite was when he came here asking for help with an auction title...
Seems that he had come upon a large collection of Black Americana Memorbilia -- all children oriented, & he wanted to know what we thought of the term: (rhymes with) Piglets...

It is pretty tame these days...of course, I think that started when they fired all the moderators here. They definitely took an active part in the discussions, deleting quite a few postings. It was fun because if you received them via email, you could see what nobody else could later.
