A news article earlier reported on a new forest fire in northern California. It's dangerously close to 3 different 500 KV lines bringing power from the Pacific Northwest to the San Francisco Bay area. Although the lines and towers are not directly threatened by the flames, if the fire gets too close to them, there is a possibility that power will have to be cut to them temporarily to allow aerial access by borate bombers and water dropping helicopters. This would possibly cause power blackouts in the Bay area. So if Ebay and / or Vendio becomes inaccessable later today or tonight, that will most likely be the cause.

Good lord. If it's not ebay trying to put you out of business it's mother nature.

Thanks for the heads up.

Mike...Worst case nightmare for Bill Cobb. The power surges caused by the system going down and coming back up could jolt the servers and everything would come back online working properly. They wouldn't know what to do up there.

Thanks for letting me know. I think I am going to turn everything off for awhile. Ebay's headquarters and I are on the SF peninsula. I am sure they, like the other computer/internet companies in the area, have back up generators to keep things moving

Fortunately, the weather is starting to cool a little in the north part of the state, and the strain on the grid today isn't as bad as it's been the last 5 days. PG&E is making contingency plans to route power from other sources if any of those lines go down. Hopefully, any interruption would be very brief. I'm sure Ebay has enough backup generators to keep the air conditioner in Meg's office running and the billing department computers on line. Not sure if they have enough to keep our auctions going though.

Yep I was wondering about power outages especially since I took advantage of 20 cent day to do some relist. Be about right to go out and my auctions close with no bidders due to most bidders waiting until LAST minute to bid.

Where is Vendio by the way
